With Pronounce Expose, connoisoeurs of eurotrash know its best to wait, because quite frankly, few of the titles in their catalogue are worth the single-disc asking brand! BUT, as with their Post Apocalyptic Action Triple Feature Pack, their Psycho Killers Triple Feature Pack, their Jungle Fright Triple Feature Pack, their Martial Arts Triple Feature Pack and their Obnoxious Animals Triple Feature Pack, their Zombie Triple Feature Pack, their Deplorable Women Triple Feature Pack, and their Demons Triple Feature Pack, this newest edition, the JUNGLE GIRLS TRIPLE FEATURE PACK provides a cheap fix for those who absolutely must explore some of the worst euro-junk from the 80’s. And at about $6 a disc, these pieces of crap are finally WORTH the money, though you’ll pay far less in distinct retail chain stores. I found it for $12.99, which further justified a discover.

Up first is GOLDEN TEMPLE AMAZONS, a deathly lifeless Jess Franco allotment filled to the brim with topless women who remain topless throughout to distract you from the train bankruptcy of ingenuity and awfulness of the memoir, about a young topless jungle girl, raised by a dismal tribe, who grows up to seize revenge on the nearby tribe of topless tainted amazons who killed her parents when she was young. Coming as is did at a time when Franco movies had long since stopped being even remotely spellbinding (and trust me, most of this man’s work isn’t even remotely enchanting, build for perhaps WANDA THE Despicable WARDEN), the whole thing feels like one sluggish grab for what few dollars remained in the exploitation market at the time before being dumped internationally on video under any number of the usual retitlings. In fact, great of the film was directed by a Eurocine journeyman and it was largely edited by company men as well. Eva Leon proves she’s mild got it, at least from the neck down, as the leader of the Golden Temple Amazons, her wardobe consisting of an eyepatch, a vest and a teensy exiguous g-string as she whips her minions and our heroine with gusto. The golden temple “location,” such as it is (and probably the centrepiece of most of the scenes actually shot by Franco), is really fair a cave with foreground miniatures of “golden” pillars and friggin’ BIRDCAGE bars feebly tyring to telegraph some kind of scale. Oh, screw it, let’s disappear on to…

AMAZONIA: THE CATHERINE MILLS Chronicle (aka Schiave Bianche: Violenza in Amazzonia) . Probably the best of the poor bunch in this place, if only for the participation of celebrated mondo pioneer Franco Prosperi (Mondo Cane, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Africa Addios) who seems to have had an influence on director Mario Garrizzo, who directs this largely in the pseudo-documentary style of Prosperi and Jacopetti’s earlier works. Hell, most of the cutaways in this (the shots of pleasing scenery and animals killing each other) glance suspiciously like they were shot by the Mondo giants, for they frequently don’t match the footage of the main record, . The rather haunting rep feels familiar, too. That yarn, such as it is, is told in flashback by virginal schoolgirl Catherine Miles (Elvire Audray), on trial for the abolish of two people. Turns out her parents were killed by a ruthless tribe (she says) during a picnic boat pace down the Amazon. Rescued by the benevolent lead hunter of the tribe, which is the typically nonsensical mix of Spaniards and Asians that seems to slash up in all of these damned things, she gradually learns their ways, and watches their graphic rituals, and spends virtually the entire film topless, and falls in treasure with her original guardian, all the while nurturing her concept for revenge against him and his people. The revelation of the killers’ identities would have been a surprise had they not diappeared from the anecdote DURING the crucial abolish sequence because the filmmakers couldn’t figure out a gleaming plot to temporarily divert the audience’s attention away from them, so they objective vanish until the ruin of the film. Dialogue in this is minimal, and comes largely from the courtroom framing sequence, while the presence of a Mondo-style narrator at the beginning and slay of the film (where we’re supposedly shown footage of the “valid” Catherine Miles in jail, is another nod to Prosperi’s roots.

Finally, we have DIAMONDS OF KILIMANDJARO, another slog through the jungle from Jess Franco starring Katia Bienert (EUGENIE) as the white jungle goddess sought out by a crew of hunters and relatives working for her mother, Franco regular Lina Romay doesn’t unprejudiced PLAY a bloated bedridden mess in this, but was actually starting to View like one in accurate life, and she was only 29! But even in her brief scenes, she fares better than Bienert, who looks positively STONED–or stupid–throughout, swinging topless from vines she barely has the strength to have on to. One would never occupy that this stick of wood had been “acting” for three or four years by the time this came out! Her enemy in this is topless Shadowy Jungle Goddess Aline Mess, a feral stunner who has planted Katia’s WHITE, SCOTTISH uncle (complete with tam o’shanter hat and bagpipe theme music) on the tribal throne as piece of her cunning thought to assume revenge on the foul white men who have threatened her people. Relatively bloodless, but obedient in the boobies department, but since it’s a mid-80’s Franco, everything is shot so matter-of-factly, and without one hint of sensuality, that you unprejudiced halt carring after the second pair are paraded across the hide.

Extras on these discs are the photo galleries (on all three discs), recent trailers for each film, plus several others (again, all three discs) and interviews with Eurocine honcho Daniel Lasouer (on GOLDEN TEMPLE and DIAMONDS, each about 12 minutes), both of which display to be more enlightening–and more interesting–than either of the films they accompany.

Liana a glorious jungle girl’s parents are murdered by a tribe of about 7 amazons in Golden Temple Amazons. She seeks revenge on them and gradually finds it. The place of this movie is lousy. The only staunch reason to glimpse is for the dazzling women and there are plenty of them! All of the amazons are fair but Liana is the precise glance catcher! She & the amazons spin thru the jungle always half nude! Liana is played by Joan Virly. Her short curly hair is shapely to say nothing of her boobies which are impartial perfect! Liana always wears a g string & loincloth that leaves plenty to the imagination however! This movie is ok for the money as are the others in this dvd collection.

Forrest Gump is a rare movie that succeeded on all levels. It was a box office break ranking among the top five highest grossing movies of all time. But it was also a essential darling, garnering across the board praise and a truckload of awards. The movie became a cultural phenomenon, spawning cook books, quote books, a top ten soundtrack album and lines like “plain is as lifeless does” and “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna score” have permeated our dialect. The movie has a nostalgic, feel obedient vibe thanks to the dimwitted Forrest’s perambulate through 60’s and 70’s touchstone events. Underneath all those warm feelings lies a darkness. Unpleasant things happen to objective about everyone Forrest comes in contact with. His best friend Bubba is killed in Vietnam, his other friend Lt. Dan loses both his legs, his mother dies of cancer and his beloved Jenny dies of AIDS. Even the famed people Forrest comes across meet with grief, President Kennedy & John Lennon are assassinated, George Wallace is shot and Elvis Presley dies young. There are suitable performances all around. Sally Field is feisty as Forrest’s mama, Mykelti Williamson is comical as Bubba, Gary Sinese as Lt. Dan is a perfect rough edged foil to Forrest and Robin Wright as Jenny portrays the confusion that young people of the times felt perfectly. While all those performances are of high quality, Forrest Gump is Tom Hanks’ tour de force. He is utterly luminous as Forrest. He is in virtually every scene of the movie and never once does he fail to astound. He becomes Forrest and makes you care what happens to him. Mr. Hanks deservedly won his second consecutive Best Actor Oscar for the role and cemented himself as the best actor of his generation and one of the best of all time.

Forrest Gump is one of the best film of all time. Definitely the best Zemeckis’s work so far and he has establish so worthy soul and depth to this 1994 Academy Award winning Best Portray. This movie portrays the life of a slow-witted character who gets embroiled in various ridiculous situations. He was a Vietnam war hero, received a congressional medal of honour, shook hands with many US Presidents and was a successful owner of a exiguous company. We obtain to peer many world events through the eyes of a supposedly “unimaginative” character. The spin and creep of the movie was perfect as we hurry through various historical events like the Vietnam War, assasination of JFK and the Watergate Scandal. Tom Hanks gave an undeniably amazing performance as Forrest and truly deserves the Oscar that he earned. Gary Sinise gave a grand performance as Lieutenant Dan in the movie. Even though he was only nominated and did not net anything, I felt he really deserves the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. The scene where he pulled Forrest down from the bed and cursed him for saving his life, objective simply blew me away. Sally Field is also astonishing as Forrest’s mother and deserves the Oscar as well. The line “Forrest, you have to do your best what God has given you. Be valorous Forrest, be gallant in everything you do. Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna acquire.” really moved me and brought me tears. No movie had bring such emotion in me. Robin Wright did her role well as Forrest’s esteem interest and complements well to Forrest’s life. The actors truly brings the characters to life and I must salute Zemeckis for choosing the perfect cast. The technical aspect of the film is unprejudiced suited. The visual effects is unlike anything we have seen before. Many movies have not fully utilised the CGI effects to complement it. Nowadays, filmmakers unprejudiced want to explain what special effects they can do rather than what the special effects can do for the film. In Forrest Gump, visual effects are utilised to their best to compose astounding scenes. Scenes like the flying feather, Lieutenant Dans’ missing legs, Vietnam War, meeting of the president is unbiased astounding. This is what visual effects is all about. To do impossible scenes to the colossal conceal. Alan Silvestri’s film net is one of the best scores I have ever heard. From the touching piano section at the beginning feather scene to the uplifting tune of Forrest hugging Jenny at the Washington square scene, Alan’s award-winning win truly brings the perfect mood and emotion to the film. Every aspect of this movie is simply respectable from the eye-popping special effects, film editing, fabulous earn, sound, to the theme of the movie. This movie makes us realised that we all have a purpose in life and that we all have the ability to do the impossible. Forrest Gump tells us that we all should have strong principles and beliefs to succeed in life. Forrest only believes in 3 person. He believes in God, his momma and Jenny. Nothing can go past them. Fair eye at what Forrest has achieved. He is the President of a itsy-bitsy company, a war hero, a Ping-Pong champion, and a glad father. Forrest Gump simply tells us that we can accomplish anything in life as long as we assign our best worry and own in everything that we do. Forrest Gump is no doubt one the best films I have ever seen. It changes my perception of life and makes me realised that we all have a purpose in this world. We probably won’t be seeing anything like this forever. A apt masterpiece.

I have seen all the Star Wars films with the exception of Episode III, and they are some of the best movies perhaps of all time. This one, the first in the series of newer movies following the life of Anakin Skywalker, is probably the best, if there is one that is better than all the others. I’ve always conception that the newer movies had sub-par acting in comparison to the new three, but Episode I has an exceptional performance by Liam Neeson. The special effects are absolutely splendid. The best scenes in the movie, in my plan, are the podrace scene and the Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Maul lightsaber battle. The effects in the podrace scenes are favorable in the fact that they accurarley recount the hurry of the podracers and there are several crashes that are quite graphic. The lightsaber battle is longer than in the other movies and is, I hold the best lightsaber scene in any of the movies (I don’t know about Episode III, but from what I’ve heard, there are some estimable lightsaber scenes in that one too) . If you are recent to Star Wars, I would commence with this episode, not Episode IV, because you can gaze them in the lawful order. I would also seek this one first because it’s a great intro into the series. I highly recommend this!!

I admit that The Phantom Menace isn’t quite as suited as other Star Wars films, but it’s aloof attractive genuine. I was a tiny bit disappointed the first time I watched it, but I gave it another chance and realized how superb it actually was once you discover past the surface of positive characters and races. Everytime I view it the movie seems to obtain better because I prefer up microscopic things that add to the overall Star Wars Universe. That being said, the main reason I give it only four stars is because after watching the deleted scenes I stare what the movie could have been had some of those scenes been left in. If anyone has read the novelization they know how notable obvious scenes were that were left out of the theatrical release of Episode I. Perhaps George Lucas will release Special Editions of the first three films in the series (Episodes I-III) and include those additional scenes to expand the universe a bit more. If that happens I will definitely be giving the extended version of this film five stars. So this only gets four stars, but seeing and/or buying this DVD is a must if you are a science-fiction fan, and especially if you are even a casual Star Wars fan. For those who dismissed this film before, I say give it another chance. I did and I was contented I gave it another gape.

Brilliantly directed by Christopher Nolan, who also wrote the screenplay based on a short record by his brother, Jonathan Nolan, this film had to be a gargantuan challenge for all. The word “memento” means “remember” in Latin, and the myth is about Leonard, so traumatized by a blow to the head after his wife’s rape and abolish, that he has lost his short-term memory. He’s out for revenge and is looking for the killer, but, although he remembers his life with his wife and who he is, he cannot remember anything that has happened since. He therefore takes Polaroid shots of everyone he meets and writes notes on them. And he also tattoos things he wants to remember all over his body. The role calls out for an exceptional actor and Guy Pearce certainly does rise to the occasion. I found myself drawn to him, identifying with his condition, and joining him in his struggle to represent to the world.

The anecdote unfolds backwards, an current fable technique that is tricky to consume. We examine a scene and consider we understand. And then there is another scene that has happened prior to it, and it totally changes our perception of what is going on. Purposely, it is confusing. And purposely, there are moments of clarity where it all fits together only to become even more confusing in the next scene. Carrie Ann Moss plays a femme fatal and, as we earn to know her, we are not quite clear what her motives are. Joe Pantolino is cast as in the role of Leonard’s buddy, and we are constantly confused as to whether he is friend or foe.

I sat there fascinated as this complicated position unfolded, enjoying the mastery in which the director led me down different avenues of belief and also introduced questions about the just issues keen. By the waste, I was absolutely distinct of nothing at all, except that I had been traveling on a roller coaster of an experience that didn’t have any easy answers. While I tend to want films to have a beginning, middle and extinguish, and a account line that is easy to follow, this an exception to the rule. I definitely recommend to those who are willing to survey this modern film, which is certainly one of a kind.

The only film that I can believe of that comes even terminate to the ingenuity of Memento is The Usual Suspects. Like that procedure underappreciated classic, Memento gives you the ending immediately, and then spends the rest of its time showing you how it got there. Each scene offers clues and various revelations–Leonard’s tattoos, why he writes what he does on Natalie’s and Teddy’s pictures, what happened to his wife, Leonard’s job before “the incident”–each of which are thrilling mini-narratives in themselves.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Memento! Click Here

The acting is first rate. Guy Pearce, best known as “the one who wasn’t Russell Crowe in L.A. Confidential”, is Leonard, a character who will intrigue you, seize your sympathy, and might even terror you by the destroy. Joe Pantoliano’s Teddy will have you debating his intentions towards Leonard for days afterwards. The steady acting coup, however, is fellow Matrix alum Carrie Anne Moss–her performace as Natalie will obtain you cherish her, disfavor her, and construct you fiercely protective of her.

The movie can only be watched on DVD. Sustain the remote handy as you’ll want to discontinue every now and then, if only to read Leonard’s tattoos for various clues. After watching the movie, be distinct to check out Otnemem in the Special Features fraction for newspaper articles, pictures, journal entries, and psychiatric reports on Mementos bright characters. They will assist confirm what you consider happened in the movie. DVD also offers the mischievous option of choosing to contemplate the movie backwards (or would it be watching the movie forward? ) . You will definitely deem the option after watching the movie. I haven’t done it yet, but I can’t wait to sight the accomplish that it has on the movie.

This movie is worth the considerable hype. If you enjoyed movies like The Sixth Sense, The Matrix, The Usual Suspects, Seven, Fight Club, and Unlit City (some of my personal faves), then Memento will be the crown of your DVD collection!

Season Four of SMALLVILLE saw the major characters all beginning to design the transition from adolescence to adulthood, reflecting the beginnings of the prove itself to start the transition to the next level. The fundamental challenge for the reveal has been to reinvent the “Superboy” years by conceiving Clark Kent as a work in progress, a profoundly gifted young man gradually gaining exhaust of and control over powers that makes him utterly new but also alienates him from his friends by the need to preserve his abilities secret. During each season he has discovered current abilities, first X-ray vision, then heat vision, then well-organized hearing to go with the spruce strength, urge, and invulnerability that he has long possessed. Plus the hints of the impending ability to waft. The contrast between SMALLVILLE and the Superboy comics I read growing up is that the latter were always utterly ahistorical, intentionally oblivious to everything that would assume plot for the adult Clark Kent. There was Lana Lang, but no reflection on how things would go with them, how they would fail to forge a permanent attachment, how Clark would later focus his attention on Lois Lane instead. To its credit, SMALLVILLE has always proceeded with one survey cocked towards the future. In this season, the point to began what could be a metamorphosis into a more weak present. I would not at all be surprised if in the next year or so SMALLVILLE were cancelled and a current expose, perhaps called METROPOLIS, would be taking its plot, with a minute number of characters making the transition to the unique show: Clark, Lex, Lionel, Lois, and perhaps Chloe, with guest appearances by some Smallville regulars. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the four seasons of SMALLVILLE, but my occupy plan is that they are coming halt to exhausting the possibilities in the epic of Clark Kent’s youth in Smallville. Hopefully they will acquire the tale to the next level. Bit by bit they have added elements of the future to the exhibit, and this persisted into Season Four’s finale, [...]. And [...] is it unreasonable to select that he will add the ability to soar at will in Season Five [...]

Though this was another respectable season, it was perhaps less consistent than the two previous ones. The season was damage by two things: 1) a number of feeble episodes and 2) a unsuitable storyline in which Lana Lang somehow channeled the spirit of a tiresome 17th century French sorceress. It wasn’t honest that Lana’s possession was a awful view, it didn’t lead to any expansive resolution. As worthy as I luxuriate in Kristin Kreuk aka “The Cutest Young Woman in the World” as Lana, she simply doesn’t believe the acting chops to pull off multiple persona in convincing fashion. [...] Simultaneously, Erica Durance was introduced to the cast as Clark’s inevitable treasure interest Lois Lane. These were impartial two of many small changes that started scooting the series towards the future. Lex, for instance, started more and more showing his willingness to submerge his top-notch affection for his friends for his maintain ambitious ends. In the season finale he even physically assaults Lana to forcibly occupy from her an object he imagines she possesses.

I discover forward to Season Five. This is clearly a indicate that is on the verge of exhausting its thought, and I’m profoundly sceptical that they can continue it beyond the coming season. I hope that the show’s producers and the WB can negotiate bringing this point to to a attractive conclusion and then transitioning several key characters to a unique prove that continues the adventures of everyone’s celebrated Man of Steel in the sizable city of Metropolis.

A renowned critic is distinguished for saying that the worst movie the Marx brothers could ever build would detached be better than most films out there. That’s how director Steven Spielberg is these days – though not at the top of his considerable or approved peak, he continues to beget movies that – though not shoo-ins for a Top 100 list – are ‘good.’ Case in point: The Terminal is the worst movie he’s made in a decade, and I peaceful had a graceful sterling time.

If anything, The Terminal (like Young Adam with Ewan McGregor) proves that an immensely talented star and American Everyman like Tom Hanks can rise above honest about anything and effect it worthwhile. His pickle as the immigrant stuck in the airport terminal is alternately hilarious, touching, and so incredibly nuanced that you do – beget me on this – forget it’s a megastar playing the role. Hanks plays the role with a Chaplinesque grace that compliments everyone around him, especially airport workers Diego Luna, Kumar Pallana, and Zoe Saldana. And the movie works…to a point. What I found most grisly about Terminal is that it really comes apart with the introduction of the dwelling strand involing Catherine Zeta-Jones’ flight attendant. Her Amelia is a schlocky, As the World Turns-inspired fraction of character writing that is too often contrived and sappy. And unconvincing at that – quite a feat considering Zeta-Jones is the most shapely woman on the planet.

I don’t really know what was going through the minds of writers Sacha Gervasi and Jeff Nathanson when they decided to throw this movie away in its final act. This movie has so great wistful charm it’s easy to throw off the ‘Amelia situation’ and succeed, but the area spotlight hits her too remarkable come the end; and it gets so sappy. Ebert hails Spielberg as an American director who can develop audiences roar without manipulation, but The Terminal becomes too noodging as one act of kindness after another guides the movie to its conclude. And I admired the film’s aim for simplicity in its final tie of the station strands (yes, this movie turns on a peanut canister), but as the credits rolled, I felt a vague feeling of dissatisfaction (a la A.I.) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Terminal! Click Here

It’s difficult to really believe a movie like this. The charm, heart, and wit displayed in most of it is enough to support it afloat despite some serious missteps, but let me occupy a petite and be unfair. This is a director who has helmed some of the most enduring works of American film…so why didn’t he search for some the soap opera-ish writing and cheesiness that pops up too often in this film? I glimpse toward the movie’s faults more because I know they could have been fixed: Amelia could have been more believable, the movie could have left out some “awww” moments at the slay, and it could have trimmed off about 10 minutes. Had The Terminal taken the time to match the perfection of the film’s first half, it would have been one of the best movies of the year. I had such a vast time for a while, and wanted to follow it to even greater things. Even now, though, it’s a warm, captivating microscopic comedy stuck in an overlong melodrama’s body. GRADE: B

“The Terminal” has a lot going for it.

It has the crowd-drawing director, actor, actress, and a place that would invent anyone say, “how in the world? “

And for the most portion, it lives up to it. Hanks is absolutely improbable in his role. I forgot it was him for the majority of the film, and though that should be par for the acting course, it’s not for many actors. He loses himself as Victor, and he’s not haunted to lay it out for his character. He changed his waddle, stance, everything for Victor. It’s the complete package, and Hanks never misses a beat.

Spielberg delivers what you expect: respectable directing. There are so many petite touches in the background during the entire film that you sit and smile when you net it, and when a scene comes off as completely coherent, you realize there was so powerful reinforcing what had occurred. The typical (of fresh films anyway) Spielberg lighting comes into play frequently, and it makes for a handsome film. He got such a satisfactory performance from Hanks and the rest of the cast…must be a really eminent director, eh?

Catherine Zeta-Jones had a smaller role than I expected, but she unruffled pulled a decent performance. I believed her, for the most fraction. A couple scenes, no, but for the most piece.

The supporting cast of Victor’s airport friends is respectable. The chemistry between them and Hanks is broad, even with Hanks not speaking English very well. I really like those characters, and the actors pulled it off brilliantly.

The script is pleasant, dialogue believable, and account followable and lovable.

My only complaint with the film is that it seemed a diminutive drawn out at points. It’s about 2 hours, and I understanding it could’ve been shorter. But the subplots maintain you entertained, and you really grow to delight in the characters. There are some lively character developments and studies in this one. You’ll want to judge when it’s over, though you may not know what about.

“The Terminal” may not be what you expect; but it is a fine film, with comedy throughout and some nice dramatic moments too. I recommend it. Delight In Hanks’ shiny work!

I won’t expend time on the movies themselves, except to say that they’re two of the most spirited films ever made. Instead, let’s focus on why to gain the 3-DVD plot instead of the 2-DVD state.

The third DVD is truly impressive. You’ll obtain fully-animated deleted scenes; amusing & moving interviews with cast, crew, animators, etc.; an absolutly hysterical debate on “Who’s the best character? ” with Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and the whole cast; some very detailed explanations of the techniques primitive to earn the movies; and so remarkable more. I’ve spent over three hours on Disc 3 alone so far, and there’s a lot more to go!

With the put a question to notice highlighted, hit ‘Enter’ for a outtake with an introduction by the directors.

The sound & represent quality on all three discs are the best I’ve seen on DVD. Helps when the whole movie was CREATED digitally, eh? :)

All in all “The Ultimate Toy Box” is the best DVD plot around, bar none. Well worth the extra money!

The fourth and final installment of writer/director Amando de Ossorio’s “Blind Uninteresting” films proved the old-fashioned adage “if at first you don’t succeed…” to be moral. `The Night of the Seagulls’, released in ‘77, was in my estimation by far the best film in the series. The horrific human sacrifice sequence at the beginning immediately captured my attention and held my interest through to the very raze. The storyline was simple, straightforward and coherent. The women where also more lovely then they were in the previous installments which never hurts since this genre of film is attracts a predominantly male audience.

Lots of improvements in this one along with that signature sound we’ve all near to know and care for makes for a fitting ending to the “Blind Tiresome”. If you only search for one in the series compose it this one.

1977 saw the last installment of Amando de Ossario’s Blind Stupid Films. The Night of the Seagulls (aka Awe Beach) was a satisfactory demolish for a series that had been going like a flash downhill. Night of the Seagulls is however a substantial improvement over the evil Ghost Galleon.

As always the dwelling is fairly simple. A doctor and his wife (Victor Petit and Maria Kosty) fade to a seaside village. Once there they are given irregular warnings by the town’s departing doctor and are treated with contempt by the local villagers. It seems that every seven years seven women must be sacrificed to the Knights from the sea in order to hold the town from being destroyed.

Dr. Stein and his wife hire a local girl, Lucy,(Sandra Mozarowsky) to be their servant. One night a neighboring village girl(Julie James) comes to the doctor’s door in hysterics before being led off by the local village women in a outlandish procession. The doctor investigates and learns from the village idiot (Jose Antonio Calvo) about the sacrifices. The next night the villagers advance for Lucy and the doctor intervenes and stops the Knights from taking their victim. As usual at this point everything falls apart and the doctor and his wife are attacked by the Knights. The ending has to do with the destruction of the Knights and a pagan idol which controls them.

Once again Blue Underground has done a glowing job with the source material. The print quality is basically handsome if at times a diminutive soft focus. The audio is standard mono but clarity was ample on the English dubbed version. The disc offers the new trailer and a stills gallery.

This is one of the least reviewed entries in the series and probably one of the least seen as well. This is a shame since it is also one of the better entries in the series. The acting is not grand and the dialogue runs from the mundane to the objective tedious bad but the film has a sharp ability to withhold your attention for its relatively short urge time. As with all the titles in this series, you should know what you are in for before spending the money and resolve wisely. Well worth a rental for the creepy makeup and costumes. It is also sterling to observe the Knights on horseback again and the riding along the beach scenes provide a iconic image for 70’s dread fans.

Rent it.

When someone asks me what my accepted movies are, I usually give them a fairly predictable list: 2001, Citizen Kane, The Seven Samurai, and so on. By the time I score to #10 or so, I add, “Oh, and ‘Koyaanisqatsi.’”

That stops them frigid. Most people, even folks who believe themselves film buffs, have never heard of “Koyaanisqatsi.” Most of them can’t even notify it. (No infamous there; I gain tripped up on Ukranian names myself. No reason to request them to regain a Hopi word perfectly the first time.) When I deny them about it, though, my absorb eyes light up and my hands travel and my face twists in all different ways. And they perceive that, and they net interesting, and then they too want to peek this extraordinary movie that has no site, no dialogue and no characters. It is one of the most unbelievable movies ever made.

“Koyaanisqatsi” is one of the very few truly experimental movies in which the experiment is a success. It has, as I have said, nothing resembling a customary location. There are no main characters, or supporting ones, for that matter. There is not a single word spoken during the film, except for songs in the Hopi language. It is entirely images of nature, mankind, and the artifacts of mankind — sometimes speeded up, sometimes slowed down, sometimes in loyal time, but always seen in a curiously wide-eyed and totally undiluted plot.

The film may not have a status, but it has a sage. It opens in the American desert, where the hand of man rarely intrudes, and them moves by degrees into man’s world. What I accumulate most exciting is that the movie’s editing and camerawork often seem to be doing two things at once: we stare at these things man has made, and in some cases we are repelled, but in many cases we are hypnotized or fascinated. When the camera sits at the foot of a giant glass skyscraper, reflecting the clouds around it, should we be repelled? The skyscraper has a beauty to it that is as superior as the buttes in the desert, and one of the movie’s treasures is that it makes this argument almost despite itself.

The behind sections of the film grow faster in editing and in presentation. Philip Glass’s regain – sometimes dumb, sometimes rapidly, always mesmerizing – both illuminates and stands aside from the movie; it can be heard on its occupy, as something quite apart from the images, or it can be seen as the Greek chorus for the film’s “story.” This kind of duality runs through the film: we can search for it as a relatively straight “visual poem” in which the movie’s title — “life out of balance” — is depicted in a relatively straightforward scheme. Or we can peruse beyond that and glance a complex case: As saddening as the world may be, is it not the only one we have?

The director of “Koyaanisqatsi,” Godfrey Reggio, has made it distinct that he considers the film to be both polemical and non-polemical: “KOYAANISQATSI is not so mighty about something, nor does it have a specific meaning or value … So while I might have this or that way in creating this film, I realize fully that any meaning or value KOYAANISQATSI might have comes exclusively from the beholder. The film’s role is to provoke, to raise questions that only the audience can reply. This is the highest value of any work of art, not predetermined meaning, but meaning gleaned from the experience of the encounter. The encounter is my interest, not the meaning. If meaning is the point, then propaganda and advertising is the compose. So in the sense of art, the meaning of KOYAANISQATSI is whatever you wish to manufacture of it. This is its power.”

“Koyaanisqatsi” currently exists in a apt limbo which has not been properly resolved. Copies of the movie on DVD are available directly from the movie’s web plot…, and the funds from purchases of the film encourage Reggio and his cohorts free the movie from its grave. They will also go towards the production of another film in the “Koyaanisqatsi” cycle, which I imagine will be at least as eye-opening as this one is — if lacking in the total newness of build that “Koyaanisqatsi” brought with it.

….as another reviewer has said, KOYAANISQATSI is CROPPED. I gain the petite edition DVD that was sold as a fundraiser around a year ago by the Institute for Regional Education (IRE) and it is in 4:3. The unusual MGM so-called “widescreen” release simply adds shaded bars to the top and bottom of the camouflage, with NO extra width shown- the other reviewer is 100% accurate! I compared the IRE DVD with the original MGM commercial release on two DVD players at the same time, and the size of each relate is exactly the same, but the MGM release has shadowy bars blocking Ron Fricke’s cinematography. The bars acquire away 2 inches from the top and bottom of the hide of my 32″ TV, or 4 inches of characterize height total. I adore widescreen movies, but purposely blocking out what was originally filmed is RIDICULOUS. KOY was originally filmed in 4:3, not widescreen.

These films are the two greatest combinations of music and film ever made- it’s unbiased a shame to witness KOY treated so poorly. Nice interviews with Godfrey Reggio and Philip Glass and cheap tag aloof makes it a must-buy. All we can hope for is maybe a “special edition” in the future that’s done accurate as this release is apparently selling elegant well.

Right now, the best KOY sound is found on the laserdisc, and the best recount is found on the diminutive edition IRE DVD which is no longer available. I’m so tickled I didn’t sell it! It’s a priceless collector’s item now!

I haven’t yet checked the unique MGM DVD of POWAQQATSI compared to my VHS POW videotape as far as the shaded bars taking away narrate from the original- but the modern POW DVD indeed has an amazing narrate quality and the soundtrack fared very well in the conversion to Dolby Digital- it sounds pleasurable. KOY sounds muffled and too rolled off in the highs.
