At the outset, let me say what I am: I am white, 61 years faded, a physician, and I live in a gated community. It would be easy for people like me to dismiss “Head of Residence” as unprejudiced another crass commercial rip-off by Hollywood. It’s not that at all.

The premise underlying “Head of Location” is that Americans are currently represented by a government totally out of touch with the lives of ordinary citizens. That’s why this film can be so hilarious, why it strikes such a responsive chord.

“Head of Region” is more than honest another comedy, more than impartial a parody of our political process. It is radiant political satire, studded with considerable insights into the political process. Yes, I laughed all the plan through the film. But if Mays Gilliam ever comes to loyal life in America, I won’t be laughing at him. I’ll be voting for him. And so will the country.

Chris Rock does an pleasurable job writing directing and co-producing Head of Plot. It’s a hilarious comedy with a lot of heart and a lot of soul. Well-written, quick-witted and extremely clever, Rock’s comedy stays right to its African-American roots while making commentary about the dusky area of the original political process in America. Perhaps in his beget procedure Rock is trying to send a message to politicians to protest precise ideas, vow from the heart.

In Head Of Set Chris Rock plays a struggling Washington D.C. Alderman who gets no respect. Constituents don’t savor the aspiring politician, and his girlfriend (Robin Givens) dumps him leaving him with unpaid bills and a repossessed car. The next day his boss (Keith David) fires him. He thinks things are turning around when the Democratic Party recruits him to hasten for President. The jokes on him; the Democratic party knows it can’t collect against the current two-term Republican vice president in 2004, so they settle to hobble out Rock’s character as a filler candidate until the 2008 election. They don’t fill a sad candidate has a chance, but the alderman believes in himself.

The campaign is uninteresting until a pep talk from his brother (Bernie Mac) at a Chicago campaign halt. Soon Chris changes campaign tactics and decides to be sincere. The more he’s legal to his Murky self the more his poll numbers initiate to go up. This is when the movie really takes off. When Rock’s Alderman starts saying what he feels instead of what he’s rehearsed, the campaign starts to advance to life. All of a sudden this underdog has a chance. All of a suddent the woman who dumped him wants him succor, but the candidate has his eyes on a hardworking gas set worker (Tamala Jones)

As the alderman’s polls numbers begin to go up, the incumbent candidate starts to grief about the underdog, Rock’s campaign manager’s inconvenience about controlling him. But he calm believes in himself. He hits a snag after a school shooting, but with the succor of his brother decides to challenge the incumbent to a debate. Things reach to a head when the two candidates debate. Rock’s character is burly of energy and current ideas, and he eventually goes on to embarrass the uninspired jargon-spouting incumbent. In the waste he wins the presidency becoming the head of Place, and gets the girl who works at the gas residence.

I really enjoyed this movie; I feel guilty about missing this one in theatres because this movie made me laugh and smile so distinguished in two hours. I got give Chris Rock props for creating a film with a certain message and writing gloomy characters in this movie that are quick-witted and hardworking. In this “Gangsta” era it’s rare to explore a movie focusing on regular working class murky folks. More props to Chris for making a movie with quality production values. A lot of dim filmmakers don’t occupy time to focus on crucial details like cinematography, casting and editing. Paying attention to those often ignored film elements transforms Head of Site from a marvelous screenplay into a ample movie.

Besides Rock’s hilarious and incandescent portrayal of the presidential candidate underdog, there are some ample performances here from the supporting cast. Rock writes well-developed characters for all his cast, not unbiased himself. Bernie Mac steals the few scenes he’s in and has big chemistry with Rock; they feel like brothers. Robin Givens is hilarious as the gold-digging ex in her pitiful attempts to secure help her man. Givens has the best performance of her career; I never opinion she could be so droll. Lynn Whitfield literally disappears from the conceal and becomes the campaign manger. She must have channeled Condelezza Rice for this performance. This woman is extremely underrated; she needs to be the lead in more films! (Cough*Halle Berry’s upcoming Nefertiri* Cough) Tamala Jones is sweet as the cherish interest.

Head of Region is a Shawn James five star well-known video. Grasp this one up along with Eddie Murphy’s The Renowned Gentleman, CB4, and The Mammoth White Hype for your unlit cinema night. While you’re at it, bewitch up Diary of A Wrathful Shadowy Woman and How U Like Me Now.

Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis) is an aging, rundown, alcoholic cop who, at this stage of his career, finds himself at the bottom of the totem pole. Thus, he gets saddled with the menial errand of escorting smalltime thief Eddie Bunker (Mos Def) 16 blocks from the precinct to the courthouse, where Eddie will testify in a expansive jury. But what begins as a routine assignment for Detective Mosley becomes a desperate dispute for survival as the bleary eyed, hung-over cop and his charge get themselves under relentless attack by focused, well-armed assailants intent on making definite Eddie doesn’t form it to his court appointment.

16 Blocks is a thinking man’s action thriller. Even though, on the surface, it looks like a suspense film, a case could be made for it to be considered a character seek represent. Amidst all the frenetic bullets and trot sequences, you’ll net many moments of casual interaction, as slow enacted by Willis, Mos Def and even Morse. Willis and Mos Def, in their mismatched buddy roles, set aside in some character acting and have several scenes where they unprejudiced have conversations (some on point, some non sequitur), in between the chases. Mos Def’s motormouth character, in particular, spends an inordinate amount of time honest riffing about suits and signs and bakeries.

Bruce Willis continues his new trend (gape Hostage) of portraying jaded, burnt-out cops who kill up seizing one last shot at redemption. He excels in playing this type of role: tired, world-weary, kicked-around, maybe even a itsy-bitsy defective, but, ultimately, someone not to be eff’d with and someone who can be depended upon to doggedly do the factual thing (Bruce seriously needs to patent this character) . Jack Mosley, as played by Willis, is laconic, chubby, shuffling, stuck on the bottom rung career wise, and has a dire craving for alcohol. But the audience never doubts he’ll man up when the chips are down.

I’m a fan of Mos Def, from arrangement aid when he was impartial a hip hop artist. Don’t collect me putrid, he was and is a ample rapper. He flows and rhymes with insight and intelligence. And he’s mammoth as the host of HBO’s Def Poetry. His natural, off-the-cuff style of acting is making folks sit up and pay attention (check out Brown Sugar, The Italian Job, and Something the Lord Made) . With 16 Blocks, he comes out of left field with his jazzy interpretation of Eddie Bunker: verbose, optimistic and a bit quirky. The only negative in his portrayal is the grating fashion in which he channels the nasal train of comedian Eddie Griffin. Other than that, Mos is solid.

David Morse is substantial as the main villain. He injects his Det. Frank Nugent, Jack’s hooked recent supervisor and ex-partner, with equal doses of complexity, cynicism, and immorality. Nugent’s been around the block, knows the ropes and could care less about minimizing collateral injure. Yet, a fraction of Nugent serene cares for his traditional partner Mosley and regrets having to effect him down. But, in the waste, he’s gotta do what a dirty cop’s gotta do.

Director Richard Donner gauges the tempo of this movie unprejudiced apt. Not too plodding, but not all out action, either. Oh, the action scenes are plentiful and charged with enough tension but they aren’t break-neckedly constant. There is great breathing room in between the pursuits, a traipse which nicely suits Willis’s middle-aged, gimpy-legged hero, as he actually gets a chance to grasp in oxygen, in between exchanging gunfire and platitudes.

The sparse Special Features consist of an alternate ending not seen in theaters, several deleted scenes with wiseacre commentary by Richard Donner and his screenwriter, and a theatrical trailer. A film commentary would’ve been nice.

16 Blocks is a well-meaning movie that is introspective and thoughtful, yet strives to give the fans their money’s worth with its done-by-the-numbers shoot-em-up violence. There is a profitable message here trying to execute itself heard, thru the teach of Eddie Bunker, that Pollyanna of a crook. The movie has a top-drawer star at the top of his game, who seems, in fact, to rep better as he ages. And it’s got Mos Def, who I firmly gain will be heard from for a lot of years to near. Three and a half stars and a solid recommendation.

Veteran director Richard Donner (the first and best “Superman” and “Lethal Weapon”) does an advantageous job of entertaining things along in regards to the space as well as crisply addressing the psychological, correct and social implications of his characters actions in the terrific “16 Blocks.” And it helps tremendously to have Bruce Willis and Mos Def in the leading roles.

Willis: gutted, disheveled, disgusted with life and his job as an NYC detective, Jack Mosley… swigging out of a 5th of Canadian Club at 8 AM, limping from an injured leg, looking and acting every bit as a man who has given up on life and waiting for retirement so he can save a bullet through his head. But there is a lot more going on in Jack’s head and Willis is very worthy up to the task of giving him a truthful inner life that both grates on your nerves as well as touches your heart.

Though hampered by a cartoon character sing, the estimable Mos Def gives little time crook Eddie Bunker emotional weight and depth. Eddie’s motto? “People can change” …a mantra that will resonate all through this film.

Donner has tackled some weighty emotional and social issues here: redemption by arrangement of the truth, set aside a life and that life becomes your responsibility…themes not usually associated with this type of police action represent. In fact”16 Blocks” reminds me very great of Sidney Lumet’s sublime “The Verdict” in its juxtaposition of the casualties of basic human nature and its failings and the morality or lack thereof of Justice.

Director Frank Oz [aka Oznowicz] was actually born in England, and he was raised in America. A very talented actor, with 104 film appearances on his resume -he also specialized in “content work”. He and Jim Henson created the whole MUPPETS phenomenon. He created multiple characters, the most distinguished of which were Kermit and Miss Piggy. He is equally well known for being the train of Yoda for the George Lucas STAR WARS series. As a director he has made 14 films, varying from THE Unlit CRYSTAL (1982), through the classic fun of WHAT ABOUT BOB? (1991) . All the draw across the spectrum to the crime thriller, THE Fetch (2001), with Robert De Niro, Edward Norton, and Marlon Brando. DEATH AT A FUNERAL (2007) represents his triumphant return to comedy; and what a sunless and luscious foray it is.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Death at a Funeral! Click Here

A farce of the first order, this film is about a normally dysfunctional family who are forced to confront each other at a patriarch’s funeral. The fantastic script was written by Dean Craig. He is a young writer/director with only four films to his credit. In 2003 he gave us DIRTY Small SECRETS. His script for FUNERAL was filled with wafts, even wads of wit, had terrific internal timing, a solid structure and place, with a delicious and irreverent sense of humor. It is a film so completely farcical that I own it could be produced on stage, in live theatre. All those slamming doors, crossed-over plotlines, and zany characters would lend themselves to some contaminated theatrical moments.

Attending the film I was overjoyed to give in to the instant giddiness that most of the audience immediately lapsed into -beginning to titter and then guffaw while the opening credits were calm rolling. If laughter is the “best medicine”, and we all know that it is, then this film should be mandatory viewing, and the tickets should contemplate like a medical prescription pad. Viewing this film is definitely salubrious for “what ails you.”

Lost appreciate, improper identities, bumbling morticians, caskets that arrive alive, those dreadful and sunless secrets regarding the patriarch’s “special needs”, hallucinogenic bursts of inhibition, nudity, toilet hi-jinks, suppressed sex, unrepressed sex, deviant sex, pregnancy, predispositions and misunderstandings, jealousy, an ice queen for a wife and mother, a Spartacus toga party, a centurion’s costume, an unpublished fresh, harping, cajoling, bondage, wrestling, roof-romping, with enough turnabouts, fop haws, reversals, and surprises to flesh out three other comedic films, plus a really first-rate cast -makes this darkest of drawing room comedies land on its dancing feet somewhere lodged half scheme between Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward, or say George Bernard Shaw and Harold Pinter, who is emulating Carl Reiner, who collaborated with Mel Brooks, after consulting with Woody Allen. This solid exiguous film my not be tinged with “greatness”, but it is absolutely the funniest evening I have utilize in the theater this year.

Like so many others this viewer avoided the theatrical release and deferred to the DVD release of DEATH AT A FUNERAL, thinking that a silly rob on a potentially morbid subject might not be very piquant. Couldn’t have been more disagreeable! This is the kind of humor the Brits do so well – shining, expertly delivered dialog and action that can build even the most unlikely situations hilarious. Writer Dean Craig and Director Frank Oz have created a farce and have keep this tongue in cheek area in the hands of some the best of the British actors. The result is a spinning top that only gradually allows the viewer to breathe from laughing during the clever final credits.

The father of a very dysfunctional family has died and son Daniel (Matthew MacFadyen) and his wife Jane (Keeley Hawes) have agreed to host the funeral. After the mortuary first delivers the sinister corpse the tone is site for all the base things to happen. The arriving family is a bizarre clan of characters – a novelist living beyond his means in Modern York (Rupert Graves), a man who unwittingly mistakes an hallucinogen for Valium and ends up on a whisk that entertains all, a ‘drug distributor’, a crotchety former man with toilet problems, and the usual stuffy and goofy associates that so often populate the British comedies. And when it seems as though miniature else could assist sanity, up pops a figure gain the US (Peter Dinklage) with a secret about the deceased and proceeds to cause a state that becomes the focal point of this zany funeral.

Saying too remarkable about each of the characters diminishes the surprises that abound. Were it not for the fact that each of the actors in the film is ‘top drawer’ this miniature movie could have become mawkish or tasteless, but this cast and director have produced one of the most refreshingly humorous films of the past year. This DVD double feature of Clara Bow at the beginning and during the thick of her career gives us a inviting study of one of the most accepted restful stars. DOWN TO THE SEA IN SHIPS (1922) was shot when Clara was only 16 by D.W. Griffith protege’ Elmer Clifton. Her fragment is only a supporting one but you can clearly ogle the star potential there. The main focus of this film is not the romance between the two leads but rather the detailed scenes of Novel Bedford whalers plying their trade. This makes the film a involving historical document which is not for the squeamish as it contains loyal and graphic footage of the killing and dismembering of whales. What you look is MOBY DICK for steady. This print taken from the Killiam Collection is in great shape although it seems a limited posthaste at times. It is mighty better than the obsolete VHS version assign out by Critic”s Choice some years help.

PARISIAN Care For (1925) was made only 3 years later but what a incompatibility in Clara’s appearance. Here she is the star and fully displays the vivacious charm and charisma that made her so accepted. The yarn of French Apache lovers and their benefactor is a petite hard to follow probably due to some missing footage and features some rather attractive interplay between the male leads. The sets of Parisian garrets are respectable and Lillian Leighton steals the explain as a Marie Dressler like matriarch at a swanky party. This DVD copy was taken from the only surviving print which was discovered in 1998 and restored by the UCLA Film and Televison Archive. All in all an captivating combination of 1920’s style romance with rugged documentary style footage and the chance to search for Clara Bow execute from a Mary Pickford like tomboy into a stout fledged star. Yet another glowing job from Kino International in their ongoing series of mute film presentations on DVD.

Viewers who gaze out this Clara Bow double feature will likely compare it to IT, the 1927 charmer to which all of her films are compared sooner or later, the film that finally captured the most naturally exuberant (and unnaturally wounded) personality in quiet film. Bow had made more than 30 films in the five years preceding IT, only a handful of which survive in any condition. Even her minor films, therefore, are impossible to ignore. DOWN TO THE SEA IN SHIPS shows us Bow in 1922, barely 17 years customary and modern as rain. In her slight role as a long-haired tomboy, she neither poses nor emotes; she is simply herself at 17. The fraction offers few hints of the delectable flapper whose unembarrassed sensuality would one day startle even Elinor Glyn and deluge Paramount with nearly fifty thousand fan letters a month. PARISIAN Adore, released three years after DOWN TO THE SEA, teases us with glimpses of the It Girl-to-be. But they are captivating glimpses: the long tresses are gone, replaced by a pushed-up, snip-sprung, crazy-tilt hairdo that eases our entry into the softest, most shocked eyes that ever looked out of a movie shroud. The amusing site is forgettable; Bow is not. PARISIAN Cherish should encourage as the springboard to a great better Bow film from 1925, THE PLASTIC AGE (available from Image in a twofer with THE Reveal OFF) . One day, perhaps, the incomparable WINGS (1927) will win a domestic release. Isn’t it unfamiliar that the first movie to gain the Academy Award for Best Record is not available on a commercial U.S. Plot 1 DVD?

I am a tremendous fan of the terminator series. I contemplate the sage is one of the best ever concieved as it has alot to do with whats really going on in the world. Will artificial intelligence ever come a point were it becomes self aware? Its a very spicy quiz and I consider that is one of the reasons why it has been so successful as a series. This is also one of the only trilogys that I feel level-headed has alot of potential for future movies. I judge we really need a terminator film that is actually state in the future where the terminators live and with the modern announcment of T4 most likly being made, hopefully we will pick up impartial that.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Terminator 3 – Rise of the Machines! Click Here

As for T3, it is without a doubt the worst film of the 3 but with that being said I detached really enjoyed this film. Alot of the people that disliked it did so because they said it went relieve on everything that was established in T2. I am not one of these people and I really like the aspect of this film that turned around and said Judgement day is inevitable. Its without a doubt the single best twist to this entire tale in my idea because in reality it really is. Technology will continue to drive forward with computers getting better and better and no matter what you do to close it, someone else will pop up and continue the research and development. Its basically where we are today with technology. There is no stopping the advancment that we sight taking space on almost a daily basis. If one company were to discontinuance develpment in a positive space, someone else would impartial pop up and select that companies or persons station.

Anyways that is really why I liked this film so grand. It took the series in a completly original direction by stating that there was no plot to finish it while the first two movies focused on what to do to actually discontinuance it. With that being said this movie had its flaws and it unbiased isnt on the same level that T1 & T2 are on. Its tranquil a highly bright action film with some astronomical performances and a colossal ending that perfectly sets up the Terminator film that I am dying to study, the one plot in the wasteland of the future. Hats off to Arnold as well who really busted his butt to catch into killer shape for this film so he wouldnt discover any different than he did during the first 2 films. He pulled it off without a hitch. Objective another testament to that guys ability to work his body and fetch into killer shape.

Anyways on to the HD-DVD…

There were a few people on the HD forums that were disappointed in this transfer as it didnt point to the amount of detail that some of the better transfers have shown. While it is factual that this transfer doesnt have the detail display in some of the other transfers like Aeon Flux, Batman Begins and Sahara, it is calm a gigantic looking film and a tall improvment overthe SD version. One of the thing you have to lift into memoir is the fact that definite films unbiased translate over to HD with grand better results than others do. T3 was shot using Super35 and to sum up the Super35 process, it doesnt employ as powerful station on the negative that regular anamorphic does thus you have a cramped loss of detail compared to those that expend standard anamorphic. With Super35 you also have to perform intermediate prints to fetch the transfer onto a film that can be ancient in theatres. Everytime you get an intermediate print you lose resolution and detail. So to sum it up as I really dont want to win into a grand technical discussion on Super35 and the other film processes. Super35 impartial does not have the image quality that regular anamorphic does period. T3 is a super35 film thus when you transfer the t3 film onto HD it impartial isnt going to examine as captivating as a lot of the other films that arent Super35. Some of the main characteristics of Super35 are increased grain and less detail, both which are indicate in the HD transfer of T3.

With that being said, T3 unexcited looks mammoth and is a tremendous improvment over the SD version. I am actually a fan of increased graain as long as it doesnt behold noisy which in this case it doesnt. It adds a disticnt contemplate to the film. As noteworthy as some people would admire for every film to glimpse like the Batman Begins of Aeon Flux transfer, its fair a dreadful understanding. To create evey film view the same would be like taking all of the artistic possibilites of film and throwing them down the toilet. Its valid that films recognize different because it would be a very monotonous world of cinema if everything looked the same. Unprejudiced image what Tim Burtons Sleepy Hollow would see like if he conventional the same film and process stale for Batman Begins. It would have absolutly destroyed the film and would have taken all of the spooky atmoshpere away. He purposly extinct unsuitable processing to fabricate all of the colors washed out and to do it more grainy and more contrasty. That film also looks gargantuan on HD-DVD but like T3 doesnt have a transfer that shows as grand detail as some of the other transfers.

The sooner everyone relaizes that not every film is supposed to have improbable detail, shining colors, & natural inequity. Films differ by the processes former to create the film and those differences in process equate to a inequity in characteristics in a HD transfer. You have to educate yourself on honest what processes were weak for each particular film and only then can you accomplish an educated critique of a particular films HD transfer.

To sum this up, T3 is certainly not a disc you want to pop in when your trying to exhibit someone fair how remarkable detail can be seen in a HD movie. It was filmed in Super35 thus it was never trying to be a film that had a crazy amount of detail in the print. With that being said, T3 is a large transfer that is moral to its master print. Its a sizable improvment over the SD version and its a mountainous film which hopefully leads the series to a 4th film which is state in the future. I know I wont ever be done with the thought of a unique Terminator flick until that particular account has been told. Here is to hoping they gather around to making that happen.

OC..

I give the film five stars, because I like the movie. About the 1080i issue: if you maintain an inaccurate T3 Blu-Ray disc, you can call Warner’s customer service number at 1-800-553-6937 for an exchange.

Compare Prices on Jackie Chan’s Project A

In my idea the new Chinese language version of Project A is one of Jackie Chan’s best films. A film beefy of grand stunts and some of the best fight scenes of any Jackie Chan movie. This version however is extremely awful. I was very angry when I saw this release in the video store on DVD. I have a subtilted video tape and I have been waiting for it’s release on DVD. However I became leary when I recalled the modern release of Jet Li’s Fist of Account and other current English dubbed Hong Kong action movies like Iron Monkey, Police Record 1 and 2 and Gloomy Cloak. It seems to me that the people interested in these re-releases have no respect for these gargantuan movies. It many cases, especially Jackie Chan’s movies, scenes are edited out, the recent fetch is replaced by despicable music, profanity is added and the English duubed voices are objective rotten and at times downright goofy. The English language versions are so scandalous to ther originals that it is not even amusing. Often times these films advance off as comedies because of the immoral dubbing. Project A is no exception. What was once a serious action movie, with some comedic touches, is now a goofy, wateredowned movie. The voices can not be taken seriuosly. The unique procure is objective ok, the unique was so distinguished better. The modern catch actually slows down the action sequences and eliminates most of the tension that was in the new. I was extremely disappointed with this DVD. I might recommend it to anyone who has not seen the fresh version and is entertaining about early Jackie Chan. However I will stick with my subtitled video tape.

First of all, I fancy the novel Project A, which I have seen in bulky on our local Multinational TV Channel (with enormous subtitling I might add – SBS do a ample job) . The two stars are for the DVD. If you want the trusty Project A, then don’t gain this DVD. I understanding Jackie dubbed it, the main reason I bought it – but after seeing Tale of Drunken Master (which he did dub) I have my doubts. The bid sounds very unfounded. All the rest of the actors are distinct dubs. Some scenes have been slash – especially the scene in the Mah Jhong parlour introducing Sammo Hung. They slash the shower scene and other bits when the marine police are in training, as well as other bits and pieces. Report quality is favorable – the only bonus. The music is unpleasant, doesn’t hold saunter with the action at all and is totally different to the recent. All in all, a disappointment, especially when I have to order from overseas, which costs a ravishing bit. This DVD is in my JC collection, but I worthy consume my video version.

I admire this DVD. The episodes I liked include the Johnny Bravo episode where he meets Scooby-Doo and the Eds’ first junkyard adventure. There are a few silly lines in some of these episodes, too. For example, the “Cow and Chicken” episode where Chicken misreads the survey chart and Courage’s “incantation ritual”.

Do you believe they will accomplish a Valentine’s Day DVD? If so, then the first one would have the Johnny Bravo Valentine’s special and two of the Eds’ episodes attractive the Kanker sisters; and the second DVD will have the Eds’ “Hanky Panky Hullaballoo” and two of Johnny Bravo’s episodes. Impartial a view.

It is about time Cartoon Network release a DVD containing their most accepted shows. This DVD is amazing, and I certainly hope there are more to near other than the Christmas DVD to be released soon. This contains some of the channel’s best: Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ed, Edd and Eddy, Billy and Mandy, Dexter’s Lab, PLUS the huge Johnny Bravo/Scooby Doo episode. All these shows deserve DVD releases on their absorb, but for now, I can’t thank Cartoon Network for releasing this.

“Sin Nombre” is a amazing debut for Cary Joji Fukunaga – an tale about all the harrowing obstacles that illegal immigrants from Central America face before they ever even approach the U.S. border, if they even fabricate it that far. You can indulge in this movie whatever your politics because it’s refreshingly free of preaching and lectures and messages. I’m against illegal immigration but I serene got caught up in it on an emotional level. Fukunaga simply presents a straightforward sage concerning Sayra, a Honduran girl about 15 y/o and Willy, a Mexican boy a microscopic older, maybe 17 y/o. The viewer is left to arrangement his or her enjoy personal conclusions regarding the Enormous Report of illegal immigration and Third World poverty and colonialism and imperialism and exploitation and economics and gangs and so on. I can remember seeing a TV newsmagazine segment a few years ago on how these migrants ghastly Mexico on the tops of cargo trains. Not inside the boxcars, but clinging to the tops of the cars. Apparently, the interiors of the cars are too uncertain because of bandits and/or rapists and murderers – both free-lance thugs and organized gangsters. At any rate, the whole scene is totally lawless. Anybody who attempts this stir is taking their life into their maintain hands. They’re beset upon by not only the aforementioned bandits, but also the Mexican authorities, who seem entirely unsympathetic, to set aside it mildly. At the time I thought: “What a ample premise for a movie!” Seems like Mr. Fukunaga agreed.

I believe the trailer gives away too considerable already, so I’ll try to be careful what I say here. Willy is a member of Mara Salvatrucha and Sayra is making her design North when their paths intersect atop a direct. Willy makes a moment-of-truth decision that permanently and irrevocably disrupts his life and suddenly binds the wide-eyed Sayra to his side from that instant on. Then the inch is on and it’s a gargantuan one.

This movie is not only extremely graphic, but also very true-to-life and thoroughly realistic. For example, there’s a scene where an unarmed Willy is being hunted by two gunmen and I figured he would simply turn the tables on them and find their guns. After all, Sylvester Stallone would unbiased laugh if it was a mere two killers after him, proper? Sylvester would then easily slay them both bare-handed in a few seconds, suitable? Even with his eyes closed if he wanted to. But then I realized that Willy without his bear gun and without his gang was impartial a paralyzed boy running for his life like a rabbit. At that point, I realized unbiased how superb this movie was and I really got into it.

Fukunaga gets uniformly heavenly low-key and histrionics-free performances out of his entire cast. Not a single worn link among all of them. The two leads are sure standouts but there’s a lot of sterling work by the other actors. Lil’ Mago is absolutely terrifying; a figure straight out of a nightmare but smooth seeming human. Martha Marlene is amusing and very touching when we realize what her fate is going to be. Smiley is good on the money – a titanic peformance by a child actor. Scarface reminds us that not all of the Mara Salvatrucha are kids; some of them actually survive into their 30’s and 40’s and so on. I assume the guy playing El Sol gets somewhat overlooked. His character doesn’t have Lil’ Mago’s eerie appearance but he manages to be every bit as scary honest the same.

Also, Mr. Fukunaga clearly knows his Shakespeare. Willy has two different relationships that both echo “Romeo and Juliet” and there’s a scene at the ruin that’s a fresh version of “Et tu, Brute? ” from “Julius Caesar”. But what I like most about him is his obstinacy. He was given a Sundance Studios green light to build a film and he came up with a Spanish language anecdote made in Mexico with an all-Hispanic cast. Not a single gringo in look, but don’t let the sub-titles discourage you from experiencing a first-rate, extremely well-made, deeply intriguing film. Go view it and remove the DVD when it comes out – it’s that suitable.

Sin Nombre has it all – titanic acting, stunning cinematography, much themes, and astounding realism. The realism is no accident. Young filmmaker Cary Fukunaga spent months in Mexico, interviewing both immigrants and gang members about their experiences. He shot on residence, and many cast members are nonprofessionals. For example, Edgar Flores, in the lead role as a member of the Chiapas chapter of the brutal Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang, is straight off the streets of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Despite the specific setting of the tumultuous U.S.-Mexico border, Sin Nombre addresses remarkable and universal themes of damnation and redemption. At least, that’s how I saw it. In an interview, Fukunaga himself said he sees it as being about family – “the disintegration and recreation of the family unit in its modern and varying forms.”

The situation centers around a chance and fateful encounter between gang member Willy and a 15-year-old Honduran girl, Sayra (Paulina Gaitan), who is riding north through Mexico atop a scream. Though Sayra’s trail, viewers find an appreciation for the intense dangers faced by Central Americans trekking toward the promised land.

Without giving away anything, I can direct you a bit of background on how the film came about. Fukunaga, a native of the San Francisco Bay Space, was in film school in Recent York when he read a Modern York Times memoir on a group of Mexican and Central American immigrants who died of asphyxiation and heat exhaustion while trapped and abandoned inside a refrigerated trailer. His short 2004 documentary about that case, “Victoria Para Chino,” won multiple film awards.

That project evolved into Sin Nombre, as Fukunaga explained in an IndieWire interview. Doing the research, he said, “I learned about the terrible budge Central American immigrants went through in order to secure to the United States – crossing the infinitely more hazardous badlands of Mexico on top of (not in) freight trains accelerate for the US Border. It was like a world that belonged to the broken-down wild west.”

Against the advice of friends, Fukunaga gained intimacy with his topic by taking the same harrowing train-top wander that he would film. On his first crawl, with 700 Central American immigrants, the jabber was attacked within three hours:

“We were somewhere in the pitch gloomy regions of the Chiapan country side. In the alcove of the next explain car I heard the positive pops of gunshots, always louder than they seem in the movies, then the screams of immigrants passing the word: ‘Pandillas! Pandillas!’ (gangsters) . Everyone scattered, I could hear them running in past our tanker car. Not having any where to hasten to, I stayed on…. The next day I talked to two Hondurans who were next to the attack. They told me a Guatemalan immigrant didn’t want to give two bandits his money so they shot him and throw him under the explain. [Later] I learned the police had found the body of a Guatemalan immigrant, shot and abandoned…. Nothing could have driven home the sensation of terror and impotence than what I had felt first hand with those immigrants.”

Fukunaga’s willingness and ability to look through the eyes of others probably owes remarkable to his upbringing. Fukunaga is described in an L.A. Times article as “a wandering spirit with a Japanese father, a Swedish mother, a Chicano stepdad and an Argentine stepmom [who] can’t be reduced to the sum of his parts, ethnic or otherwise. Growing up, he shuffled from the suburbs to the country to the barrio (’Crips and Bloods, people getting shot’) to the East Bay’s hillside bourgeois enclaves. His family, he says, always has been a ‘conglomeration of individual, sort of displaced people,’ recombinations of relatives and step-relatives, blood kin and surrogate kin, parents and what he calls “pseudo-parents” who treated him like a son.”

With this background, Fukunaga was able to consume not only the immigrant experience, but the pathos of gang life in Central America and Mexico, with brutality and hopelessness transmitted from generation to generation. Sin Nombre doesn’t give the history or context for the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), which at 100,000-strong is widely considered one of the most fastest-growing and perilous gangs in the world. But you can secure that elsewhere on the Web.

In brief, the MS-13 is an outgrowth of the 1980s war in El Salvador, which led to a massive migration of up to two million refugees into the United States. Many settled in the Ramparts spot of Los Angeles, where the gang was founded. Strict U.S. immigration policies in more fresh years have paradoxically worsened the gang jam, allowing the MS-13 to win footholds in Central America and Mexico. The MS-13 is known for its quick-witted tattoos, but some say members are tantalizing away from tattoos because they so brilliantly illuminate gang membership for authorities. A documentary on the MS-13, Hijos de la Guerra (Children of the War), can be previewed at hijosdelaguerra dot com.

Sin Nombre is getting universal acclaim, and richly deserves the directing and cinematography awards it garnered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

True Lies is a movie about an U. S. glimpse (played by Arnold Swarzennegger) who tries to hold his good occupation a secret from his wife( played by Jamie Lee Curtis, the daughter of Tony Curtis, and her mother was Janet Leigh.

Anyhow this movie has some hilarious moments, I especially like the passe car salesman, who reminds me of an ex-friend.

Highly recommended for fans of Arnold Swarzennegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. I didn’t realize she could play a sexy role.

Gunner February, 2008

Meet Arnold Swarzennegar – fantastic James Bond type see who’s absolutely clueless as a husband and father. He starts out as impeccable as 007, who he is obviously spoofing, but then loses it and goes crazy when he suspects his wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) is cheating on him.

his best buddy, Tom Arnold from “Roseanne” fame, is the perfect funny foil. It’s really Tom that makes this act/adv stand out from the crowd. The dialogue is lickety-split, droll, and Tom takes it to the limit. Also up for a laugh is Bill Paxton, another Cameron regular (Aliens), who plays a seedy used-car salesman posing as a peer in order to seduce women. He really goes all the plot, completely unafraid of playing a correct idiot!

It’s unprejudiced so enormous to ogle an act/adv with gargantuan action that isn’t little to the usual, off-hand quips from stoneyfaced he-men. This movie is one of my favorites because it’s a gargantuan popcorn movie that delivers on many levels. It’s not impartial an excuse to blow things up and no one takes themselves too seriously. Everyone obviously had a titanic time making this film and it shows. I hope they invent the sequel soon.

I’m a substantial fan of this movie.

I had preordered it and view it included the Extended version. I would have rather owned the version

that adds 40 minutes and makes a more appetizing movie experience.

I was dissapointed to obtain out it was the unusual theatrical version only.

If I had known that, I wouldn’t have purchased it. It’s gargantuan have Waterworld on Bluray, it looks wonderful,

but I would have rather waited for the extended version that I’m clear will arrive out eventually. The movie companies always have to fetch a procedure to do an extra buck at our expense by making us by the same movie twice.
