These films are like the 80’s movies that made everything that mattered happen. Ferris, Goonies, Breakfast Club, etc . . . except they are surfing classics, epic documentaries if you will.

**Bruce Brown has the classic surfer aesthetic, and narrates each film poignantly and humorously.

Endless Summer 1 is the classic older film, paced a little more slowly and fun-lovingly. It sets a great preface to Endless 2, an incredible multi-hemisphere journey.

Both films have excellent cinematography as well as dialogue and interplay between characters. Endless 2 is as goofily trivial as it is deep, as beautiful as it is mundane. . .

There are gorgeous scenery shots that do Cape Town, Indonesia, Figi, (my fav) and Alaska, justice as incredible places not only to surf, but also to just be.

Our two fascinating and yin and yang protagonists, 1, a Pat O’Connell gives suffusively satisfying short board licks, and 2, a. wing-nut supplies all of the long board smoothness to coalesce.

Five stars, in my to 25 of all time. A truly beautiful film made by those who love life.

This is a fascinating collection of films that span several decades. Of course, this is a must-see for anyone interested in surfing. However, it also has value to people who might never set foot on a board.

Endless Summer I was filmed in the early 60s, when most of the world was unaware of surfing. Two young surfers set out on a bold journey around the world to find new places to surf. Much of the entertainment in this film comes from the different cultures and characters they meet around the world. One of my favorites was an intriguing experience with an African village. This film is considered a classic documentary in the surfing world, and it probably had a lot to do with the spread of surfing around the world.

Endless Summer II was filmed almost 30 years after the first one, but it was filmed by the same man and includes one of the original surfers from the first film. Modern advances in surfing and filming are quite evident after watching the two films together. ESII has some dramatic surfing video, including remarkable footage from some of today’s most famous surfers. Two new young surfers follow a similar path to ESI, including visits to some of the same places along with new places (e.g., Costa Rica). As with ESI, the film is as much about the characters and cultures as the surfing.

The third part of The Endless Summer Collection is a nice follow-up to the first two documentaries. You get a lot of behind the scenes stories about the films and how they came to be. If you enjoyed the Endless Summer films, you will be interested to see what has happened to some of the characters and to learn more about the story behind the films.

I don’t know how you can watch this collection without wanting to go out to the beach and get on a board!

While Rise: Blood Hunter isn’t a terrible film, it’s a predictable one. This is meant to be a revisionist vampire film (no one actually uses the word vampire in the movie) but these are the same trendy vampires that have haunted the screen since Blade. Is it too much to ask someone to try and shake up the vampire film the way Kathryn Bigelow and Eric Red did with Near Dark? Or Larraz did with Vampyres (over 30 years ago)? Can’t we just get a little Nosferatu around here? Instead what we have here is a journalist by the name of “Sadie” (Lucy Lui) who discovers that a young goth girl she briefly covered in a recent article has been found dead and a hidden message she left behind may lead to her killer’s whereabouts. What she discovers is a secret underground group of vampires, who feed on unsuspecting women. Sadie becomes their latest victim, but instead of being left for dead, is turned into one of them. After she awakens in the morgue, she must come to terms with her new self and is enlisted by a mysterious Spanish man, who gives her the means and know-how on how to find and destroy the vampires that turned her.

This movie proved to be another interesting take on the vampire mythos. The vamps in this flick are fangless and really show no signs of being Nosferatu, with the exception of their strength, lack of a reflection, and thirst for blood. They’re not afraid of crosses, and we’re not shown whether the old garlic theory works on them. Sadie doesn’t even use wooden stakes to kill them; instead she seems to use metal bolts shot from her small crossbow. Although the flick is very slow-paced and doesn’t offer a whole lot of the typical vampire action we’re accustomed too, it does show a different side to the legend, by following Sadie from the moment she awakens in the morgue, to how she gradually copes with her thirst, and eventually finding strength in herself to confront those that harmed her.

The whole sequence where she awakens in the morgue, to her trip to a homeless shelter, where she feeds on her first victim, was somehow mesmerizing to me. I also liked a scene where she finally accepts the fact that she needs to feed and picks up a hitchhiker in a secluded road. From the homeless shelter to her reactions and awkward dialogue with the hitchhiker, the film seemed to portray a kind of realism behind vampirism and the need to feed. That, and my general interest with revenge-type flicks, led me to enjoy the movie mildly. Since this isn’t your typical vampire film, there’s no flying, clawing, or neck biting, so the gore is kept at a minimum. There is, however, a lot of blood spurting and bolts to the heart. In the end, what it lacks in gore and action, it makes up for in story.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rise: Blood Hunter! Click Here

Hence, the four stars. I’m going out on a limb here and I know I’ll get booed but I liked this movie and thought it very good for it’s genre. I realize people don’t like it when you go against the popular vote but I wanted to provide another voice. I’ll skip summarizations as that has been already been provided but give my thoughts (for the two cents they’re worth) instead.

I gather the Amazon Review person didn’t watch the same movie because there are a lot of errors in that summary. I’m also confused over the starring roles listing. Robert Forster was on screen for maybe two minutes – a nice cameo by him and a few others. Marilyn Manson played a bartender without all the make-up (it took a while to recognize him) and Nick Lahey plays a small time crook who doesn’t think about the whole picture (working for a vampire cult is never a good idea). All of acting was good, even the minor characters, with two main characters standing out. Sadie Blake (Lucy Lui), a supposed unwilling victim and The Bishop (James D’Arcy), an Englishman who charms his way past a woman’s barriers. These two are the ones to watch and scenes containing them sizzle. The cinematography is amazing with it’s color washes of reds and blues upon black. It’s nicely filmed by a master.

There were nice twists here with the innocent turned against her will into vampirism…. or was she? We learn from Eve that her will to survive was so strong that not even The Bishop’s feeding could kill her. That her survival instincts took over and that’s what made her a vampire, not another vampire. She was lead in that direction but Blake choose her path. I found this to be an interesting character development. As the Alchemist points out, no one is really innocent. He also points out that she is different from them, that she possess a gift. Apparently, this gift is the thirst for life and not the blood she needs to sustain it (life being a relative term here).

This movie definitely left on a possible sequel note and although I would not mind seeing another installment, the straight to dvdness of this movie leaves little option for another. There were a few plot holes but that’s what makes it a “B” grade movie so I let it go.

I recommend this movie for supernatural film fans that like a different kind of vampire movie. This is not a great film and doesn’t really qualify as true horror (lack of scary parts – plenty of gore but not much genuine fear), but entertaining all the same. Maybe it’s just me though because I hated Dracula 2000 and most reviewers loved it.

The Forms Of Things Unknown

After murdering an abusive man, two women find themselves in a frightening house where the dead are brought back to life via a time-tilting machine.

During the initial run of “The Outer Limits,” I was just a ten-year-old boy; thus, I missed some of the covert aspects of the show. Of course, the monster of the week – the “bear” as the producers called it – freaked me out, but I failed to get the subtleties that the writers carefully crafted in each installment. There are hints of infidelity, homosexuality, and repressed sexual tension in some installments, while other episodes deal overtly with self-sacrifice, marital commitment, jealousy, and betrayal. To highlight which episodes deal with the aforementioned would be an injustice; thus, I will let that “discovery” and/or “interpretaion” be left to the viewer.

“The Outer Limits” showcased some of the best acting talent, veteran and on the rise, of any show of its era. Old pros like George Macready, Walter Burke, Neil Hamilton, Kent Smith, Simon Oakland, John Hoyt, Miriam Hopkins, McDonald Carey, and Signe Hasso guest in some of the best installments in this collection. While their hit roles are just around the corner, this collection also features performances by a pre-Spock Leonard Nimoy, Sally Kellerman before the theatrical “M*A*S*H,” Richard Dawson before “Hogan’s Heroes” and “Family Feud,” Marion Ross before her days were “happy,” and Robert Duvall before his Oscar and Emmy.

This compilation features the last sixteen of the show’s first season and contains six that were among my all-time favorites: “Don’t Open Till Doomsday,” “The Bellero Shield,” “Moonstone,” “The Forms of Things Unknown,” “The Guests,” and “The Forms of Things Unknown.”

Now, after this viewing I must add “A Feasibility Study,” “The Mutant,” “Second Chance,” “The Children of Spider County,” “The Invisibles,” “The Chameleon,” and “The Special One.”

The set loses a star, however, because MGM should’ve given this classic show a five-star treatment, improving both the video and audio transfers.

This is the second season of one of the best animes ever. But, if you’re new to the anime and haven’t seen the second season, get ready for some additional shocks. The anime takes another, darker turn, where Edward and Alfonse are again, directly confronted with issues of life, death, social responsibility and an existential questioning of every belief regarding alchemy that they’ve held dear. This is the final 26 episodes.

FullMetal Alchemist is addicting. I thought anime was ridiculous until this.

To be honest, I hadn’t expected much that the concert would be enjoyable. I bought this blu-ray anyway because I wanted some new music experiences in hi-def. After watching, I was so impressed by Manilow’s musicianship, showmanship, and his passion towards music. Despite of his aging, his performance is flawless and very entertaining. He knows what audience wants from a concert! He sings most his hits including Mandy, Copacabana, One voice, I write the songs, etc. I wished he’d sung Ships. The concert was well prepared and features an orchestra. I already saw this blu-ray a couple of times and I’m sure this will be one of my all time favorites.

The PQ is excellent with AVC coding on my Samsung LCD TV even though it’s in 1080i. The DTS-HD MA audio track is stunning. No extras.

We’ve always like Barry Manilow’s voice and songwriting ability. What was a surprise is how good a showman he is. Totally delightful show, and one we will watch again and again.

Nice to have Mr. Manilow living in our home town.

Ranme is kid animation well liked by teenage and Adult. It can be silly, funny;but it’s warm, caring and romanic. Many people would give this Japanese TV series a “R”rating because of the nudity,in the japanese culture this is anormal show being watch by kids all over japan. PG-13 is the correct rating for this show. You will enjoy it.

As long as you don’t expect plot and great story you will find yourself enjoying the Ranma 1/2 series. I find myself watching them when I just want to relax and smile. It is an easy series to sit down and watch an episode or two.

This remake of the classic Destroy All Monsters maintains the wonder of all those monsters but is darker in nature. Monsters are springing up all over the place attacking civilization. Then aliens arrive and eliminate the monsters. Are they our saviors or something much worse?

Buy,Download, Or Stream Godzilla – Final Wars! Click Here

Eventually the truth about the aliens is learned and all out war ensues. The monsters return and it is up to a small group to go to Antarctica and release the imprisoned Godzilla. Hopefully Godzilla will handle the monsters while the people can handle the aliens. Monster mayhem ensues.

This movie is far better than Tokyo SOS. We see Manda in a more active role than previously as well as a number of other monsters from the early years of Godzilla. We even see the American Godzilla and an upgraded Gigan. There is a montage that shows Godzilla through the ages. The only thing I didn’t like was seeing King Seesar as a villain. Seeing the alien leader have fits when things don’t go right was almost priceless. All in all this is the Godzilla movie that really delivers what all the hype promised. Check it out.

I’ll just get this out of the way right now: Ryuhei Kitamura is one of my favorite directors. He’s the Japanese equivalent of our Quentin Tarantino or Robert Rodriguez. He has an eye-catching visual style, the talent to write entertaining dialogue, and nobody in Japan does action better. He’s also able to take pure cinematic cheese with elements of other genre films and meld them together in exciting ways that seldom fail to entertain, even if you occasionally roll your eyes. I’m also a lifelong kaiju fanatic who grew up watching Godzilla and Gamera on Saturday afternoons and saving up my shoddy allowance to buy the films on VHS. Ah, memories…

Buy,Download, Or Stream Godzilla – Final Wars! Click Here

That said, my excitement level over this film was naturally huge. I consider the millenium series of Godzilla movies to be among the greatest, boasting decent special effects and serious storylines which past kaiju films were known for lacking. This movie takes all of the improvements in those areas and throws other aspects waaaaay back to the sixties and seventies, when the movies weren’t afraid to not be taken seriously. The funny-dressing aliens we all remember are back with a vengeance, looking like cosplayers at a Matrix convention. Hilarious. Speaking of “The Matrix”, Kitamura flaunts it’s influence on his filmmaking shamelessly throughout this movie, creating a team of mutant humanoids that could have stepped right out of the film and have all of the over-the-top abilities we saw in that series. This makes for some very exciting non-kaiju fight scenes; a first in a Godzilla film. The characters are also among the first truly memorable heroes and villains in G-film history. After this, I might get into some minor spoilers, so if you want to see the movie without knowing anything about the plot, now’s the time to leave. Just trust me, the movie’s good. Check it out.

Now, onto the monsters. Every major (and most minor) classic era Godzilla foe puts in an appearance (except for Kong, Megalon, and Mechagodzilla). As a bonus, the infamous American Godzilla even gets a guest-starring spot. Needless to say, he doesn’t last long against the real thing. Then again, neither do any of the other monsters, aside from the uber-powerful Monster X. There is also a hilarious dig at long-time Godzilla competitor Gamera in the film that made me laugh out loud, but don’t blink or you’ll miss it. Godzilla is largely absent for most of the film after being buried in Antarctica in the first scene. But once he’s unleashed as humanity’s last weapon, following a kaiju-powered alien invasion resulting in the destruction of all civilization, he wastes no time leveling every single foe in the film, one after the other. The fights are short and occasionally riotously cheesy. There is one shot reminiscent of “Shaolin Soccer” that I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it. I giggled about that one shot like a schoolgirl for, like, 2 days afterwords. As I have stated before, Kitamura embraces the cheese in the best possible way. The lead villain is also a riot. The guy throws an honest-to-god hissy fit nearly every time his monsters lose, which is always. It’s hilarious to watch. He’s also pretty much insane in typical Kitamura villain fashion which just adds to the entertainment value. However, this film isn’t perfect; the pacing is off and many scenes feel like they were slapped together too quickly, a common problem in the budget and deadline-plagued Japanese entertainment industry. The balance between kaiju action and human action becomes hectic to in the second half of the film with so much going on. Some of the kaiju battles could have been a little cooler, too (Ebirah and Hedorah come to mind). Also, Mothra looks extremely good in this film but her performance as Godzilla’s only non-human ally leaves much to be desired. Altogether, this is pretty much a no-brainer for old-school Godzilla fans and new-school sci-fi fans alike. Despite it’s flaws, there is just too much damn fine entertainment in this film to pass it by. This isn’t the ultimate Godzilla film (in my opinion, that’s GMK); but as a celebration of 50 years of Godzilla stomping Tokyo, kicking ass, and taking names it is a rousing success.

I’ve heard reviews from both the Amazon raters and from the Anime Encyclopedia claiming that this film is convoluted and incoherent. I checked it out anyway and decided they were wrong here (though they were right about Maze, it stunk) as I had no trouble following the plot. As I watched though, I found that there were several tricks to following the action. First, you need to learn to filter flashbacks and mirages from the current events. Second, you need a basic grasp of Eastern philosophy, particularly Taoism. Third, you have to understand that the last episodes were flashbacks. It’s pretty easy to follow actually, even easier than A Man Called Hero.

I bought this anime yesterday and I watched four times.I didn’t really expect it to be this good. Tiara, a princess with awesome shamanic powers is determined to retrieve the THORNE OF YORD, a talisman.By disguising as a high school girl, she bumps into Lena, her ex-partener.In between the storyline,Tiara and Lena ally and fight with each other. Both women can transform into demonic figures that have awesome ablities. If you love action/adventure anime, Buy this one!

“The Front Page” is a must-see for any fans of Jack Lemmon and Walter Mathau! I bought the movie before I ever even saw it and I loved it! These two are as funny as ever in this comedy about two reporters who are on top of the hottest story in town. This is a great film to watch, although Carol Burnett’s character was a down side to it, but you hardly even notice it with the rest of the fine cast. The DVD offers an overall good presentation of the film in standard (unfortunately not widescreen)format. Bottom line- it’s worth buying, even if you’ve never seen it! Especially with the great price!

Kudos to Universal for reissuing “The Front Page” in wide screen (and enhanced for 16×9 televisions). The first DVD version, released in 2001, was in full screen. “The Front Page” may not be the best version of this story (”His Girl Friday”) but it isn’t the worst either (”Switching Channels”). And any film directed by Billy Wilder and featuring the team of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau is worth a look.

This is a very interesting movie for anyone interested in flying or learning to fly. This would be great movie to show to those who wonder why in the heck you would want to fly in a small plane. The movie also explains the importance of General Aviation airports and the role they play in our national infrastructure. It has great photography and was very well researched.

To say that this movie is by Sydney Pollack is a bit misleading. He had a very minor role in being interviewed for a few minutes but he obviously has a big “star power” name. It is really the work of the Director, Brian Terwilliger. I was fortunate enough to hear him introduce this film at the AOPA convention in Palm Springs. This is his first film and he really did everything he could to make this happen. Anyone interested in aviation would find this a great movie!

If you are a pilot or just someone who is fascinated by aviation this movie is a must see. It explains why I fly better than I can express it myself. A very interesting story about the evolution of an airport. It makes you realize just how precious these local GA airports are and how they are disappearing very fast.
