If you are a fan of Bionicle this is a substantial movie. In fact, I contemplate if you are not a fan of Bionicle you will become one after watching this. The movie is improbable – it looks mammoth (extraordinary animation for a direct-to-video title!) has a gargantuan cast, and is impartial a lot of fun. Certain, if you’re not too familiar with the world it may acquire a few minutes to understand what’s happening, but all in all, it’s a very satisfying film. If you have young boys in the household it’s perfect for them – although, I should add my dinky girl is walking around quoting it too – there’s a strong female character in the movie as well that she really responded to. A very high quality and thoughtful production – definitely recommend!

This one is a bit of an queer trade-off. The first three Bionicle movies won praise for their directing, writing, music and sound produce, but garnered criticism for their graphics, roar talent, and action. This movie is like the opposite of those movies. The divulge acting is mammoth (with two exceptions) . All of the characters are voiced appropriately at the very least and artfully at the very most, except for Kiina, whose suppose actress was unconvincing and sometimes annoying; and Tuma, whose yelp actor did a splendid acting job, but sounded inferior for the character. All of the characters are represented in this movie with three exceptions, but I don’t mind that as the cast never felt microscopic. The gape of this film is glorious. The artists who worked on this film note a religious dedication to toy accuracy, which cannot be said for any of the other films. Even the pins that own the sets together lope. The environments are lush, and only one shot in the whole movie really stands apart from the others as dreadful looking. And the fight choreography is not only lengthy, it’s gripping. Unfortunately, the camera work is not up to par with the fighting, instruct to sit tranquil and behold the action happen rather than depart with the characters in a meaningful method. The music in this film, while not abominable, could definitely have been better. And many of the sound effects are cheesy and instantly recognizable from a dozen other films, commercials, and computer games (the Wilhelm weep is in there, too) . The loyal writing of the movie is shapely, but the epic comes across more as share of a TV show’s unfinished location arc than a stand alone share, and the ending of the movie confirms fears that the whole thing is a set-up for a sequel in what i suspect will be a trilogy. But, this movie’s trustworthy points far outweigh its terrible ones, and I found it to be highly appetizing as a long time fan of both Bionicle and Michael Dorn (who plays the leading role) . I recommend it.

I am a Stockbroker with 15 years of experience. I began my career working for a firm that was like the firm portrayed in the film in many respects. In fact, I have heard this film was based on a firm that ended up merging with the one I worked for.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Boiler Room! Click Here

The film provides a very factual portrayal of a Miniature Cap firm from the leisurely 80s to early 90s. For example, the recruitment process was perfect. You didn’t need a resume, you didn’t need an education and they didn’t want people who already had licenses. They wanted raw recruits that didn’t know anything and they made money on the testing process.

After you passed the test, you received no training, you got a list (any arrangement you could) and icy called until you opened an legend on what they told you to remove. If you didn’t launch accounts within a month you were out. In the film, they chop off Riblisi’s tie as a factual of passage. In my firm, the first time you did $1000 in commissions in a single day they lop off your tie.

Other things are realisitic as well; the fact that the firm has positions in the stocks that they sell and there is extra commission at clear moments, the Brokers all know every word of the movie- Wall Street, that they have substantial houses or apartments with no furniture, they drink and regain into scrapes as a group, that all happened at my firm.

There are many more examples of parallels between the firm in the movie and the experiences of the main characters and my enjoy actual life experiences. This movie may seem base or over the top to some, but, it is as honest as a movie about this subject could be.

At first, I was a petite vexed about “Boiler Room” thinking it was unprejudiced gonna be “Wall Street: Share 2″. I finally rented it on tape and loved it. One of this year’s most underrated films, Boiler Room is a colorful and energetic film with salubrious performances from it’s proper cast. The film tells the myth of Seth Davis, a decent college dropout earning a living by running a casino inside his house, considerable to the strong panic of his frustrated think father. In order to effect his dad, Seth takes on a job at a stock brokerage firm where he becomes a fleet tracking stock broker and making great money. Only later does he collect out that his job isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. The performances are strong, particularly from lead Ribisi and supporting characters Nicky Katt as a two faced co-worker, Ron Rifkin as his dad, and Scott Caan as a hotheaded co-worker. Vin Diesel does quite well as the reliable guy to Ribisi’s Davis. The film definitely has the testosterone feel of a Generation X movie with The Angel’s rap/classical earn. There’s even an homage to “Wall Street” that I don’t want to spoil. If you’re in the mood for a really wonderful film, rent “Boiler Room”. Scrutinize for the director Ben Younger in a cameo as a stock broker.

The first in a line of straight to DVD bewitching features adapted from classic DC stories, Superman: Doomsday re-tells the noteworthy maligned Death of Superman saga from the early 90’s in though-provoking invent, and despite what many of the negative reviews here say otherwise, it works. The Man of Steel (voiced by Serenity’s Adam Baldwin) is in treasure with Lois Lane (voiced quite stiffly by Anne Heche) and both are enjoying their relationship, until his world is rocked by the arrival of the murderous creature Doomsday, who is inadvertantly let loose by Lex Luthor (Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s James “Spike” Marsters) . If you’ve read the comics, you know what happens next, but the racy feature wisely ignores the Reign of the Supermen section of the arc, in position of an imposter created by Luthor, which results in an apocalyptic showdown. Being the first in a line of newly curious features, don’t go into this expecting something among the lines of the DC spicy series’ that had arrive before it. The animation itself looks similar to what we’ve seen before (dilapidated animator Bruce Timm is heavily fervent here), but the tone is noticibly different. The yelp acting is solid (Marsters is heavenly as Luthor, while Baldwin is servicable as Superman) and the action is nicely orchestrated as well, all of which makes Superman: Doomsday an tantalizing treat. This novel two-disc edition has a few original features, including episodes from the underrated 90’s Superman exciting series, but there isn’t anything else here that really warrants getting double-dipped for.

I read the book/graphic recent over ten years ago, if I remember. This isn’t grand like that at all. Superman fights something called Doomsday and dies, then comes befriend to life. That’s about all that remains of the fresh fable.

Gone are the side stories about Superboy and Steel, which were very wintry IMHO. Gone also is the provocative anecdote about how Superman came aid to life. The mechanics unhurried how he does so in this DVD are completely different, from what I bewitch.

Not awful for a fun hour’s watching, but don’t ask this to be like the modern anecdote.

I wish they’d have made the movie of it like they’d planned :(

Once again, Disney misses the price with an noxious DVD release. Why do we crave seeing our approved stars on DVD? Describe clarity, extra features, restored prints, optional commentary… none of which are evident on this abominable release of a extraordinary Hayley Mills film. Disney’s inexplicable inconsistency becomes evident when awful efforts such as this one are compared to stellar, awe-inspired efforts such as “The Parent Trap” and “Pollyanna”, multi-disk sets released with quality and features on par with Criterion Collection releases. I give up on buying Disney. Next time, I’m going to rent the DVD first. Why kill money on novel Disney DVD’s that are base in quality to the VHS versions I already have! Hey Disney, wake up!

FILM REVIEW 4 stars

First off this is a incredible movie, and very new in its pleasing Island setting of Crete. It is a fun mystery. Directed by James Neilson, produced by Bill Anderson. Released in theatres in 1964, it starred Hayley Mills, Eli Wallach, Joan Greenwood, and Peter McErney. It is the snappily paced memoir of two tourists that accidently tangle with some murderous jewel thieves. Hayley plays Nikky, on vacation with her Aunt Frances in a shrimp Greek fishing village. They stop at a remote sleepy tiny inn, and tag that a dashing young man that Nikky is falling for from England suddenly dissappears. Romance, drama, mystery, action, and humor are in this film. The actors all work hard to do the film believable and do a expansive job. Pola Negri who had not made a film in 20 years was convinced to near out of retirement, and does a astounding job as the treacherous Madame Habib. She lives on a yacht and has a cheetah on a leash for a pet. Young MCEnery went on to appear in “the Fighting Prince of Donegal” for Disney.

There is some superb cultural stuff, the greek wedding dancers costumes were from a musuem, and the dancers were local professionals. Filming on place, Disney spent a fortune rebuilding the village that had been ravaged by WWII. They broken-down 25,000 feet of walk and 2,000 sheets of plywood. The myth was taken from a book by Mary Stewart, suggested to become a movie by Mrs. Lillian Disney, but the finished film is ravishing far from it’s new legend. Kindly mucical earn by Ron Grainer, title song written by Terry Gilkyson.

It eventually aired on “the Astonishing World of Disney”, in 1966, ‘67, and ‘82. It even aired in 1975 in conjunction with the “Saturday Night at the Movies with Disney” specials. Released on video the first time time in 1985. If you like Disney films of the period, you will indulge in this one too. It is nice to leer Hayley Mills in her more passe role.

Despite having far apt product for distribution via Pixar, Disney aloof tries to churn out their gain animation these days. While the golden days of yesteryear are gone and the resurgence relieve in the early 90s are long late us, it’s nice to study disney keep out a couple agreeable titles here and there.

“Glide” is ravishing fine. It’s predictable, to be positive. In fact, some of it reminds me of Disney’s other modern dog film, “Beverly Hills Chihuahua,” in that a dog is removed from a somewhat priviliged background and forced to live like a regular dog. Like any well-behaved animal movie, Slouch meets friends along the diagram. Upstaging Scuttle is Rhino, a hamster who worships Stir and moves around in a slight plastic ball.

What Disney has succeeded in doing is injecting a microscopic heart encourage into their product. It’s something they’ve really not been able to successfully do since “Lilo and Stitch.” There’s a really touching scene between Saunter and a stray cat named Mittens that not only captures the heart of the film, but really makes you consider twice about animal abandonment!

Performances are splendid all around and the animation is top notch. For some reason, I feel that Disney unruffled wants to compete against their have partner Pixar. Tranquil, the characters aren’t quite as multidimensional. And considering the hero’s problem to collect succor to his owner Penny, Penny really gets runt time in this. The film has a fun road movie quality and the film makers seemed to have fun with the action sequences. It’s a fun recognize, but stunning far from Pixar quality.

“Hasten” really blew me away; this is the first time that I have seen a CGI film that shows a level of mastery that allows the visual artistry of the film to be the driver rather than the capabilities of the computer. The characters have the typical CGI look–extremely well rendered, with the 3D type gaze you’d quiz. However, the backgrounds have the examine of a veteran painting. Art Director Paul Felix should be commended for this mixing of styles which works out extremely well. The overall lighting, colors, and style of this film are its hallmark in my thought. The anecdote is really not anything that will blow you away; in fact, it is somewhat predictable; however, with the characterizations, action sequences, visual quality, and the vocal talents unhurried the characters, “Whisk” becomes a must-see.

In a nutshell: Jog (John Travolta) is a super-hero canine…at least in his maintain mind and to TV viewers everywhere. In order to protect his performance and preserve it “genuine,” TV execs have sheltered Accelerate and he believes that what he accomplishes on his expose is all done on his bear, not through special effects. Bound is deeply devoted to his human costar, Penny, a small girl (Miley Cyrus), who is also deeply devoted to him as well. Mistakenly thinking that Penny is in exertion at the hands of the TV villains, Trudge escapes his trailer and finds himself in the genuine world, where his shipshape powers are not so well-organized. He accidentally gets shipped to NYC, and thinks that the pink styrofoam peanuts clinging to his fur are the cause of his loss of power. With the abet of a hamster named Rhino (Imprint Walton) and a street-tough kitten, Mittens (Susie Essman, who is Fabulous!), Slump must earn his scheme attend to Hollywood and his beloved Penny. It is a legend of growth, maturity, and love; again, nothing really earth-shattering, but in this recycled chronicle that we have seen in other movies, it is done so well that you forgive the studio for its predictability.

BONUS MATERIAL:

“Spruce Rhino” (4:27) –Rhino the hamster gets the spotlight in this intelligent short focusing on him. Cute!

Deleted Scenes: 2 deleted scenes (”Dog Fight in Vegas” and “River Sequence”) with introductions by directors Chris Williams and Byron Howard. They are both shown in storyboard design and neither is really missed from the final relate. They were not aged mainly because they wanted to heighten the emotional level of Scoot finding out about his lack of powers.

“In Session with John Travolta & Miley Cyrus” (:59) –This one is like a blip on the radar…very short! Interviews with both stars as they bag ready to exclaim the duet from the movie “I Idea I Lost You.” They are truly a mutual admiration society, with Travolta comparing Cyrus to the appeal of Olivia Newton John in “Grease.”

“I Idea I Lost You” Music Video–Interspersed with footage of Travolta & Cyrus and clips from the film.

Bolt’s Be-Awesome Mission–High def video game is somewhat more spirited and fun than the typical Disney video game extra. Originate at level 1, The Burning Warehouse and sight how far you can progress! Takes a runt bit of mastering of the controls on the remote.

“A Novel Breed of Directors: A Filmmakers’ Slip” (4:34) — The two directors discuss what it was like to acquire “Drag,” and how John Lasseter was a colossal mentor and guide in the process. Fun to contemplate the large plastic hamster ball that the animators played in to diffuse tensions around the office. Obviously enormous camaraderie was apparent with the team, as they also stopped shaving in unison during the last 9-10 weeks of work on the film.

“Act, Inform! The Voices of Journey” (9:47) –Always inviting to leer how each actor has to represent their lines independently, making the process of playing off the other characters next to impossible. Really takes talent to get it work. Travolta began in voicework (commercials), so this was a return to his roots. He comments that “You can only contribute your squawk…the most curious this was seeing the marriage with the animation.” Effect Walton, a Disney animation team member, did the scratch negate of Rhino, and was so perfect that he was cast in the final movie. The right video of him finding this news out is touching to discover as you eye his unbridled enthusiasm. Susie Essman (”Curb Your Enthusiasm”), the whine of Mittens, was inflamed to display her blueprint acting skills, but was told by the Disney team to be herself. They wanted a tough kitten with a Recent York accent. As Susie says, “It’s unprejudiced me.” Disappointingly enough, she never met Travolta during her recording sessions, even though practically every scene in the movie involves her character interacting with Travolta’s.

Bolt Art Galleries: Character Produce, Color Script, Storyboard Art, and Visual Development. Determined is astonishing to stare this colossal pieces of art filling up a widescreen high-def TV. The quality is really improbable, and definite beats the faded days of DVD when art gallery images were in low-res and fairly runt.

“Creating the World of Journey” (6:45) : The fantastic work of art director Paul Felix and lighting director Adolph Lusinsky is detailed here. They actually visited the many locations across the country to build clear that they were able to catch the light of each current scenic setting. Felix wanted the painterly looks of traditionally spicy Disney films, and he definitely succeeds. Sharp to leer this featurette.

Also included:

Digital Copy disc and a DVD of the feature with all the bonus features except the art gallery and video game.

SPECS:

Video: 1080p High Def/1.78:1. Disney is to be commended for having high-def extras as well. Whereas most studios go to the usual crappy video quality, Disney consistently upgrades even the extras. Especially exquisite for the video game.

Audio: English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio (48 kHz/24-bit) and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital. I actually had to turn the volume down a bit, as this movie really gives the speakers a work-out. Sound comes out of all your speakers, and with a number of action sequences, the subwoofer really rumbles! Extremely impressive! Subtitles: English SDH, Spanish.

I’ve been an Evangelion fan for quite some time and because of that I decided to commence collecting the Platinum series in addition to my novel EVA collection (Perfect Collection, Death/Rebirth, Waste of Evangelion and the two Director Sever DVD’s) but with all products I survey 2 kinds of reviews: in favor of the product or against it. But never something descriptive, so now I’m having a shot at it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Neon Genesis Evangelion – Platinum Collection 1! Click Here

So what is the Platinum collection… Its a re-make of the fresh Neon Genesis Evangelion series. The sound dub’s have been re-mastered (and in some cases re-done, for example the Japanese 5.1 dub) and the animation itself has been enhanced. This enhancement consists of a re-creation of the fresh portray (you can witness this very clearly when comparing the current with this version) as well as newly added material. In contrary to what most people (including Amazon) say this DVD does beget novel material, even though some of it consists of scenes which only last for 1 or 2 seconds. And if you’ve seen the unusual you can examine that these puny extra’s really can enhance the overal experience.

This release also makes it quite definite that its aimed toward collectors. The DVD comes in a (cardbord) box which is shaped in the same blueprint as the “Perfect Collection” box, it only has a different print and uses a different color (silver/grey) . The box has room to house all 7 DVD releases. The DVD box is inserted in a silver cardbord box which has some very nice decorations on it. This one features a line-drawing of Shinji standing in front of some powerlines (as can be seen in the first episode) at the front, the serve tells you what episodes are on the DVD. The DVD box itself comes with a very nice booklet which explains whats on the DVD and also has some nice Evangelion artwork. And to carry out up; you’ll regain your possess “Nerv Parking Permit”; a shine-through sticker which you can stick on the inside window of your car. All in all: its very distinct that this isn’t unbiased an ordinary Evangelion DVD.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Neon Genesis Evangelion – Platinum Collection 1! Click Here

However, although the Platinum collection is a very sterling DVD its not as kindly as the novel. Its like comparing a book with a movie: the book describes details and leave you to gain up your enjoy image of the scenes. In the unusual Evangelion serie not everything was drawn in right detail, thus leaving it up to the viewer to compose the complete relate. In my plan this adds a lot to the whole experience. Things don’t always have to be perfect in order to be experienced as perfect.

So is the Platinum collection worth it?

If you are a fan of the series I’d say yes. Even if you already fill the current series I’d mild advice you to judge this one as well (a bit like Star Wars and the later released extended version) simply because of the extra’s it offers and is going to offer.

However, if you fair want to come by an impression of the “Evangelion experience” then I’d advice you to seriously assume as to what you really want. If you unprejudiced want a stare then this is a respectable DVD: cheaper than the modern, holds 1 more episode than the modern release 0-1 and has some nice collectors items.

But if you’re modern and idea on getting the whole serie then I’d advice you to launch with the “Perfect Collection”. Its cheaper, its fresh material and by the time you’ve finished that one you can always assume getting the Platinum collection. I’m sparkling distinct that a whole boxed station will eventually be released, which will probably cost you a lot less than collecting every DVD seperatly.

But… For fans this is really a must have collection.

Evangelion is without a doubt, my popular captivating series ever made. The fable is beyond compare: it is the year 2015, in a post-apocalyptic setting. Creatures called Angels are attacking the city of Tokyo III, and the only procedure to combat them is with massive and mysterious robots called Evangelions, which can only be piloted by a 14-year ancient Child, born during the Second Impact. Confusing, legal? Well throw in some incredibly deep philosophical ponderings, and religious ideologies, and you have a indicate that will plunge your jaw with it’s action-packed battles, gallop you with it’s intricate dramatic storyline, and ultimately change your life forever. Volume One has the first four Evangelion episodes, which basically introduce you to the record and the main characters: Shinji, Katsuragi, and Rei (unfortunatly, my common character, Asuka, isn’t introduced until later episodes) . The DVD features both the English version, and the Japanese subtitled version (as well as Spanish and French versions), and of course, enhanced characterize and sound as well as some other goodies, making this the ultimate Eva. Now I can’t wait for the others.

Okay, Season 3 was good and Season 4 was even better. Now here come thirteen more episodes. If you like your Batman integrated into the wider DC superhero universe, then Season 5 will be hog heaven (but don’t get it twisted; THE BATMAN is not at all placed in the same continuity as the shows in Bruce Timm’s DC Animated Universe). This fifth season finds a darknight detective even more amenable to teamwork, although that’s not to say he’s all of a sudden the life of the party. Dude still broods muchly and cloaks himself in mystery and intimidation; that’s just how he rolls. But, continuing the trend begun in Season 4, Season 5 showcases members of the Justice League. The two episode arc “The Batman/Superman Story” kicks it off by teaming up the World’s Finest, Batman and Superman, in a nifty story featuring a whole gang of supervillains and the Bat going up against the Man of Steel. I guess it’s appropriate that the season (and the series) would close with the two-part “Lost Heroes,” a big-scale Justice League adventure.

Animated shows don’t get a lot of run nowadays, do they? THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES animated series just got the axe. And, yes, horribly, this is the last season in THE BATMAN series, so all the more reason to enjoy this one. The best part is Batman and Robin teaming up with various of the Justice League. Robin’s awed reactions to meeting these other heroes are priceless. One downside to so many spotlights on the JLA is that less time is given to the Bat family. I miss Batgirl and her sarcasm; here, she’s relegated to less face time. We do learn that time hasn’t been standing still for Barbara Gordon as she’s now old enough to attend college (”Attack of the Terrible Trio”). Speaking of the Bat fam, there’s a sighting of Nightwing; unfortunately, he’s a character in an Internet game (”The Metal Face of Comedy”). The good news is that Bat Mite doesn’t show up at all.

Regarding the storytelling and the visuals, I don’t believe Season 5 to be better than the prior two seasons, which are very good. THE BATMAN was always intended for the younger set of kids, so the stories here aren’t as dark or psychological or as thematically layered as those in, say, BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. Should this season find more favor with the viewers, it’ll be because of its glittering star power. And if the driving theme song reminds one a bit of Hawaii Five-O, well, that’s not such a bad thing, is it?

I can’t envision a future in which there isn’t an ongoing Batman animated series. Hopefully, the powers that be can dust off Kevin Conroy to do what he does best.

In the meantime, here are the 13 episodes of Season 5 (note that, depending on the reader, the following might contain some minor plot SPOILERS):

- Episodes 1 & 2 – “The Batman/Superman Story (Parts 1 & 2)” – Fun episode as Superman and the Bat finally meet and fight a lot of supervillains. But then Luthor gets the upper hand.

- Episode 3 – “Vertigo” – Green Arrow comes to Gotham to investigate Wayne Labs, which is somehow linked to people suffering mysterious ailments.

- Episode 4 – “White Heat” – Firefly and his brainy girlfriend steal radioactive isotopes; the debut of Phosphorus; and, finally, a sighting of Batgirl this season.

- Episode 5 – “A Mirror Darkly” – Flash comes to Gotham to help Batman and Robin take down the Mirror Master. One of my favorite episodes.

- Episode 6 – “Joker Express” – Get on board the Cuckoo Choo Choo. An outbreak of “giggle bandits” sweeping Gotham could only mean the return of the Joker.

- Episode 7 – “Ring Toss” – With Sinestro taking Hal Jordan out of action, the Green Lantern power ring ends up in the clutches of the Penguin.

- Episode 8 – “The Metal Face of Comedy” – A Joker henchman’s invention leads to the formation of a digital Clown Prince of Crime.

- Episode 9 – “Attack of the Terrible Trio” – Thanks to Dr. Kirk Langstrom’s mutagens, three college outcasts mutate into beasts and proceed to get their revenge on those what done them wrong. Also, Batgirl’s a college freshman.

- Episode 10 – “The End of the Batman” – Gotham’s criminal element gets its own costumed champions: Wrath and Scorn, who seem to hold a personal grudge against the Dynamic Duo.

- Episode 11 – “What Goes Up…” – A gravity-defying episode as Black Mask escapes with the help of the Shadow Thief, and the pair goes after a Thanagarian meteorite. Can a certain winged Thanagarian lawman be too far behind?

- Episodes 12 & 13 – “Lost Heroes” (Parts 1 & 2)” – Hugo Strange and the Joining return as, one by one, Justice League members begin to vanish until, finally, only the two least powerful heroes are left – Green Arrow and Batman.

The Dark Knight welcomes the Justice League to Gotham City in “The Batman: The Complete Fifth Season”. As the mysterious crime fighter Batman, young industrialist Bruce Wayne has dedicated his life to protect Gotham City from such dangerous rogues like Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman and Mr. Freeze, but now he must test his courage and skills along side Earth’s greatest superheroes. In this action-packed season, Batman joins the Justice League and teams up with Superman, Green Arrow, the Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman and Martian Manhunter against such villains like Lex Luthor, Mirror Master, Count Vertigo and more. “The Batman” is the Emmy Award-winning animated series based on the DC Comic hero created by artists Bob Kane and Bill Finger. The animated series maintains faithful to the comic books. The animation style and character designs are certainly different than previous television shows. The fifth and final season offers plenty of amusement and features guest voice stars like George Newbern, Dana Delany, Louise Gossett Jr., John Larroquette, Dermot Mulroney, Miguel Ferrer and Robert Patrick.

“The Batman: The Complete Fifth Season” offers a great DVD presentation at an affordable retail price. All 13 action-packed episodes of the final season are presented in their original full screen broadcast format. Like the previous season sets, the picture quality is really good and its 2.0 Dolby Digital sound certainly gets the job done. Its only special features are “Joining Forces: The Batman’s Legendary Team-Ups” (9 minutes) and “The Batman: Justice League Profiles” (12 minutes) featurettes and trailers of other Warner Brother DVD releases and “Speed Racer” video game. Despite the lack of solid bonus features, “The Batman: The Complete Fifth Season” earns a “B”.

The short-lived 13 episode animated Saturday morning cartoon revisited the Planet of the Apes but was a departure from the primitive landscape of the successful film franchise and live-action television series. Without the constraints of expensive live-action production, DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, which animated the classic Pink Panther cartoons, had the freedom to illustrate the lavish technologically advanced simian world as conceptualized by Pierre Boulle in his original novel La Planète des Singes. On this planet, Ape City has all of the modern luxuries and conveniences of 20th century human civilization as astronauts Jeff Allen, Bill Hudson and Judy Franklin discover when they travel to the year 3979 and encounter an upside-down world ruled by a sophisticated society of talking apes and humans have lost the power of speech and live in exile in caverns. They meet familiar characters Nova, Cornelius, Zira, Doctor Zaius and General Urko (provided by the recognizeable cartoon voice of Fred Flintstone) and references are made to astronauts Taylor and Brent from the films. Beyond the boundaries of Ape City exists the hostile desert no-man’s (or ape’s) land of the Forbidden Zone and a monastic order of telepathic humans known as the Underdwellers led by Kraydor who live beneath the surface. Judy is taken captive by the Underdwellers after falling through a fissure from an earthquake where she is venerated as USA (pronounced Oosa) implying her metaphorical resemblance to Lady Liberty and the prophecy that she will help them restore the green planet that has been taken over by the militant apes.

Originally included as part of the expensive Ultimate Planet of the Apes collector’s Ape Head set, Return to the Planet of the Apes is finally being released separately. The transfers on those DVDs from their original 16mm film prints were very dirty with excessive gate weave throughout and with mono 2.0 sound but they have now been remastered and restored exclusively for their individual DVD release.

Here is the breakdown of all 13 24-minute episodes on 2 discs:

“Flames of Doom” – Jeff, Bill and Judy travel through space and time and arrive on a strange planet that appears to be ruled by humans. As Bill is captured for study and Judy falls into a crack in the ground opened during an earthquake, Jeff is left alone to search for help but finds that the humans he meets are no more than primitive cavemen.

“Escape from Ape City” – With Bill under study in Ape City, Jeff takes refuge with Nova and the other humans in the desert caves but are forced to leave when General Urko launches an attack against them. With the help of Cornelius and Zira, Bill escapes and goes in search of Jeff.

“The Unearthly Prophecy” – With Urko advancing into the desert in search of them, Jeff and Bill are forced underground looking for help from the Underdwellers, a race of telepathic humans, but find a surprise waiting for them – Judy is alive!

“Tunnel of Fear” – Bill and Jeff sneak back into Ape City under cover of darkness to ask Cornelius and Zira for help. Avoiding Urko’s troops and a giant mutant spider, they listen as Cornelius tells them about New Valley, a place where they’ll be safe from Urko. But can they get the humans there in time?

“Lagoon of Peril” – To prove the existence of the talking humans, Urko demands that Zaius accompany him out to where Bill and Jeff’s spaceship landed. With Cornelius warning them of this, Bill, Jeff and Nova set out to destroy their craft but something awaits them in the waters of the lagoon!

“Terror on Ice Mountain” – Within an ancient ruin, Cornelius finds an ancient book, A Day At The Zoo but he realises that such subversive literature could prove dangerous. So he and Bill set off for the mountains where a holy sect is rumoured to live, who could protect the book until the time is right to announce its discovery.

“River of Flames” – Kraydor and Judy contact Bill and Jeff asking for their help. The volcano over which the Underdwellers live is threatening to erupt and the lava is almost upon their reactor. Should the reactor fail, the entire planet is doomed. Bill and Jeff must reroute the lava before it is too late!

“Screaming Wings” – Bill, Jeff and Judy are on their way to the human settlements when they see human shapes in the desert! Are there really humans there or are they targets for Urko’s new weapon – a WWII fighter plane?

“Trail to the Unknown” – With rafts to help move the humans on once more, this time to a lush green valley where they’ll be left alone, Bill, Jeff and Judy find not only a wrecked spaceship but also its pilot, Ron Brent!

“Attack from the Clouds” – One night in Ape City, there’s panic as a giant flying lizard attacks. Believing that the humans are behind this, Urko and his troops set off to capture both the lizard and those responsible for it. But Jeff, Judy and Bill have no knowledge of this creature until, that is, it attacks them!

“Mission of Mercy” – When Nova falls ill, Bill, Jeff and Judy realise that her only hope is that they contact Cornelius for a serum that will cure her. But with little aviation fuel left for the plane they stole from Urko, Bill and Jeff set out by road. Will they get the serum in time?

“Invasion of the Underdwellers” – Burglars are striking all over Ape City and there’s a panic when reports come of it being the fault of the human Underdwellers. Judy contacts Kraydor, who denies responsibility, so she, Jeff and Bill set out to prove that the burglars are really Urko’s troops, looking for support in one last great strike against the humans.

“Battle of the Titans” – After his framing of the Underdwellers, Urko has been relieved of duty and opinion in the Simian Council is swinging back towards the scientists. Cornelius believes that it is now time to present A Day At The Zoo and sets out with Bill to retrieve it. But the giant flying lizard is not finished with them yet!

I’m writing this in advance of the release of the DVDs, so be advised this is a review of the series and not the actual DVD release. I have seen the show recently on old VHS tapes I recorded off of the Sci-Fi Channel and was surprised at how good the writing is. The show takes bits and pieces from all of the Apes project before it. From the book, it retains the 4 characters that were in the movie series: Zira, Cornelius, Nova, and Doctor Zaius. This Planet of the Apes also resembles the planet Soror in Boulle’s novel in that the apes have 20th century technology. The only area that’s lacking, in the beginning, is the power to fly. From the movies, they took the Forbidden Zone, they reworked the mutants, an older Brent, and Austin Stoker (McDonald from Battle) plays the astronaut, Jeff. Urko and the fugitive format are borrowed from the CBS TV series.

The basic story in the 2 part opener is very familiar by now. Three astronauts land on the planet and are shocked to find that they are captured by apes. Zira and Cornelius aid them in their escape.

The animation is awful. The panaramic style of the illustrators almost makes up for this, however. Intricate scenes are painted onto backgrounds. As the camera pans these scenes, one may forget for a time that they are making up for shortcomings in the budget. For this reason, I could not give it 5 stars.

The stories are imaginiative and serialized. I was drawn in by the power struggle between Zaius and Urko. True, there are a few turkeys. I could have done without the giant mountain ape, but overall it was light years above the ordinary Saturday morning fare of the 70s. I certainly would not recommend this to those who have not seen all 5 movies, and the live-action TV show. To those who are hungry for more “Apes”, this series fits the bill.

Ah… there’s nothing quite like sitting back and spending an afternoon watching a series of sophomoric jokes, uproarious site gags, and ample naked breasts to make just make the time fly by. The team of Zucker/Abrahms(sp?), that wacky team that done brung (poor grammar is intentional here) you great films like “Airplane” first cut their teeth on a sketch comedy forum they called “The Kentucky Fried Theater”. By having the audacity to go places that Saturday Night Live and their censors could only dream about, the Brothers Zucker and Jim Abrahms were able to create raunchy, racy, and hilarious sketchy comedy. In the late 1970’s they finally made the big leap and took their `talents’ the big screen with the cult hit “The Kentucky Fried Movie”.

“…Movie” is a somewhat uneven compilation of sketch comedy that is crafted in the Monty Python mold. Don’t let the uneven aspect deter you, though. When “Kentucky Fried Movie” hits its targets, it makes for some of the funniest and most titillating comedy on film. One of the raunchiest skits is a `promo’ for an upcoming movie called “Catholic High School Girls in Trouble”. The shameless display of naked females, graphic (but, humorous) sex, and crude humor make this sketch one of the all-time classics. Even people who have never seen “The Kentucky Fried Movie” know about this famous sketch. There are some other fairly inspired bits in this film, including another extremely raunchy skit called “Eyewitness News (Nudes?)” where a young couple gets quite amorous while watching the evening news. “Cleopatra Schwartz” which pairs a Hassidic rabbi with a Pam Grier-type as a crime fighting couple seems just plain wrong, but is just plain funny. Other skits like the `Feel-O-Rama’ movie theater and `Big Jim Slade’s love record’ are quite funny.

However, the true crown jewel of this movie is an inspired spoof of the old Bruce Lee movies called “Fistful of Yen”. By far the longest sketch, it also packs the most comedic punch per square inch. The Bruce Lee type character must break into an evil criminal mastermind’s palace and rescue a damsel in distress. This mastermind has a secret weapon, a prosthetic arm that looks like it was made by Snap-On Tools. Nothing is spared in this set. Shots are taken ridiculously sexual names that are given to Asian characters in these movies; the easy duping of an `expert’ bodyguard is spoofed; and, even Detroit is spared no punches. For me, the most hilarious aspect is the criminal mastermind’s palace `alarm system’. When you see it, you will know what I mean. This one sketch, alone, makes the movie worthwhile. The shameless amount of raunchiness doesn’t hurt, either. If you’re curious about how the deranged minds that created “Airplane” got their start, or just enjoy a good film that seems to have been the inspiration for every sex comedy to come along since, then “The Kentucky Fried Movie” will be time well spent.

This midnight movie staple is a great example of (dirty) skit comedy. Another in the great line of quotable movies, there are some skits that are extraoridinarily funny. The “Fist Full of Yen” is so good you will find that you will want to build a Martial Arts Army of Extra-Ordinary Magnitude.

Some of the humor is not for everybody, as it is very sexually explicit. There is a great deal of nudity, so it is definitely not appropriate for the kiddies. But if you find early Saturday Night Live or Monty Python funny, you will definitely get a kick out of this picture. You will certainly never see the Evening News the same again. There are parts of this movie that do not hold up to time and some of the humor falls flat, but most of the skits are timeless and the slow parts are few and far between. Plus, the 70’s wardrobe and music are funny, in and of itself.

People from Big Jim Slade the former tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs to all the Catholic High School Girls in Trouble recommend this movie, and so do I. It is very funny.

I first saw this film when it came out and was surprised, if not shocked, that a film could be made about the importance of culture (to everyone; but in particular to Native Americans) and the attempts of tribes to locate children “stolen” from their homes and “repatriate” them back into their families and communities. In 1976, a US Congressional report found that one out of two (50%) Native American children were either adopted into, or placed in the “foster” care of, Non-Native American families. This “process” was, additionally, causing problems for many Reservation/Reserve communities, because as these children became of age they were aimlessly searching for their “real” families. In 1978, the “Indian Child Welfare Act” was approved by Congress in an attempt to stem the problems. However, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) was basically opposed to the law and failed to adequately enforce the law. None-the-less, by the late 1980s many tribes were actively seeking ways to help these children through actions that have come to be called “repatriation”: re-uniting children with family members on the reservation/reserve and attempting to teach them of their traditional culture. This process also derived from the desire to help so called “problem” children; children that were unwanted and who hated themselves, and were often in trouble.

The Canadian government, seemingly slower at doing things, actually worked out a system that was somewhat more proactive in the “repatriation” process. “Spirit Rider,” then, is a Canadian made for television movie, that depicts these efforts on one of the Ojibwa (Chippewa here in the US) reserves in Manitoba to help tribal members.

Given the budget, the topic, and the reality of made for television movies, “Spirit Rider” is a bold, beautiful film, deserving of far greater recognition than it has received–regardless of one’s political position on “repatriation.” Yes, there are some generalizations that are injected into the story, but they do not overwhelm the viewer. My sole problem with the film is that it (the DVD in particular) relies upon the subsequent careers of Graham Greene and Adam Beach by advertising them as the stars of the film. The true stars of the film are: 1) Michelle St. John, who plays Camilla St. Claire, a young Ojibwa girl raised on the Reserve that wishes to help Jesse “repatriate”; 2) Herbie Barnes, who plays the central character, Jesse Three Bears, a young boy raised in foster homes and who wants nothing to do with the Reserve or “repatriation;” 3) Tom Jackson, who plays Albert St. Clair, Camilla’s father, a pragmatic man attempting to run the local store, while being supportive of his “traditional culture;” 4) Tantoo Cardinal, who plays Marilyn St.Claire, Camilla’s mother, a school teacher, and local repatriation project coordinator; and 5) Gordon Tootoosis, portraying Joe Moon, Jesse’s grandfather who has been in prison and had problems with drinking, but was raised in Ojibwa cultural traditions (including speaking Ojibwa as his first language, and is now seen as a resource of cultural knowledge).

Please do not take this to be a diminishing of Greene’s and Beach’s performances–they are wonderful–but an acknowledgment that they are not the “stars” of the movie.

This is a wonderful movie for everyone, and I highly recommend it.

Please Note: If this review was not helpful to you, I would appreciate learning the reason(s) so I can improve my reviews. My goal is to provide help to potential buyers, not get into any arguments. So, if you only disagree with my opinion, could you please say so in the comments and not indicate that the review was not helpful. Thanks.

This was a wonderful movie. True to life, as native americans are tossed into our messy society, they can get lost. Their souls misunderstood and in short, they lose their way for a time. This young boy is no exception to the lessons one has to learn growing up and apart from his heritage. Being under the advisement of an elder, one has the promise to regain his or her confidence in the old way, and has the hope of getting back on the right road.

This movie is a good example to all who are at that age where trying to gain “independence” is more important then the consequences when they disconnect. We all are in this life together, like a web weaved so gently. Sooner or later we all come to our own conclusions, but only one truth. We are all connected.

Any movie with Graham Greene in it always proves to me to be a winner..

Thank you
