Windtalkers is the record of two American soldiers (one played by Christian Slater, the other played by Nic Cage) who are assigned to protect two Navajo soldiers who work as windtalkers, transmitting messages past Japanese codebreakers using their code based on Navajo language.

Yes, there’s a lot of violence. Yes, it’s grim. The bodyguards, Cage and Slater, are instructed to ruin the windtalkers rather than let them drop into enemy hands.

This is a huge war movie, not quite on the scale of Saving Private Ryan, but somewhere between something that gigantic and shapely and, say, Slack Enemy Lines. Cage and Slater do a noble job with their parts, which aren’t very fully fleshed out characters.

Woo’s direction weak to be so over-the-top and artsy… the fight scenes ancient to be like cartoons, with poor guy and valid guy blazing away at each other with two pistols… the most violent scenes were often preceded by or accompanying flocks of birds taking to flight, and bullet-riddled bodies always seem to pirouet in dreary motion before they drop down dumb. Woo has left a lot of the musty personal director’s style out of this one, actually. There ARE a lot of bullets, and a lot of the fighting scenes are very unrealistic (fair to obsolete Woo there), and there is one scene very reminiscent of extinct John Woo, where a butterfly floats gracefully above a river then suddenly a bloody body falls into that river, destroying the splendid image, juxtaposing a stunning natural image with a gory violent one, etc.

ANYWAY, mostly this is a shoot ‘em up war movie, and the archaic John Woo style is MOSTLY absent.

The epic has that one feature going for it, the protection of the Navajo codetalkers, but otherwise it’s a very standard war movie, in terms of location. Collected, this movie comes off surprisingly well.

If you’re a fan of the American John Woo movies, like Broken Arrow, or Mission Impossible II or Face/Off, or you liked some movies recently like Shaded Hawk Down or Slow Enemy Lines, you ought to rob a view at Windtalkers. It’s not the best war movie of the last few years (I’d vote for Saving Private Ryan for that), or the best action movie, but it is moving and memorable…

As a nephew of a Navajo Code Talker, I would like to issue my thoughts on WINDTALKERS.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Windtalkers! Click Here

First of all, if the focus of a Navajo Code Talker movie is supposed to focus on the Navajo Code Talkers and their involvement in WWII, why is the movie centered around Nicolas Cage’s character while Adam Beach and Roger Willie play supporting roles?

Second, since a lot of folks are not informed about this piece of WWII history, wouldn’t it have been a great better movie if they showed the origin of the Code Talkers before they faced the horrors of war in the Pacific Theatre?

My uncle stood proud among the surviving Code Talkers as they were recently honored for their service in the Pacific. (note: at the beginning of the movie, he is the elder in the hat that talks to Yahzzie before he gets on the bus. He also served as technical consultant.) I’m determined after seeing the movie and having survived WWII, I doubt he enjoyed seeing the Code Talkers’ back-burner depiction in the film.

Nice “action” movie, though.

The current Batman fascinating series of the 90’s might have been aimed towards children, but it was so well written and slick that older audiences enjoyed it as well. While I was a gigantic fan of that current series, I’ll admit I really wasn’t too fond of Batman Beyond (although the view late it intrigued me) . I had originally seen the modern carve version of “Return of the Joker”, and I somewhat liked it, but when I heard about the uncut version finally getting released, something told me I had to ogle it. I will divulge you that in every diagram, shape, and gain, this uncut version tops the carve one. The uncut version clears up some holes from the sever one that were created so the more “violent and primitive themed” scenes could be slice out, plus we earn to really observe honest what kind of lunatic the Joker is, I mean who would do that to a kid? Seeing that image of what happens to Robin will construct you understand why Warner Bros. crop out the scene. Not to mention we also score to peep how the Joker really met his demise, and why Bruce Wayne walks with a cane. Kevin Conroy is tall as always as Bruce, while Will Friedle is handsome helpful as Terry McGinnis, but the film belongs to Impress Hamill, who is always incredible but here grand more sadistic, as the Joker. Other declare talents include Dean Stockwell, Melissa Joan Hart, Angie Harmon, Michael Rosenbaum, and satisfactory ‘ol Henry Rollins as one of the Joker’s henchman (we also salvage to eye what really happens to him too) . All in all, if your older but cherish anything Batman, steer definite of the slit version and secure this incredible uncut edition, but if your buying this for your kids or a young child (like say under 10), secure the slash version because this uncut edition may be too intense for them.

When I saw Batman Beyond for the very first time, I concluded that it was reliable but nowhere advance as dramatic or as arresting as the fresh 1992 Batman intelligent series, or Camouflage of the Phantasm for that matter. When I heard that the first ever Batman Beyond movie would feature the Joker’s return, I anticipated the movie with high expectations. After I finished watching the film, I concluded that it was fatihful to most die-hard Batman fans, the holder of an amazingly intriguing storyline, amazing action and mystery, the answerer of questions regarding the future Batman series, and in general, a sparkling movie.

I didn’t know it at the time but the version of Return of the Joker i had watched was in fact the edited version. After hearing of the uncut version, I purchased the american DVD to behold what had been edited out. After watching the Uncut version, I immediatly discovered that this was more faithful to the Batman yarn than the edited version of the film. The final battle between the Joker and Bruce Wayne is a lot more darker in this version, and how the Joker dies in this version is a lot more appropriate and makes Tim Drake’s guilt a lot more understandable and convincing.

This is where Terry McGinnis (the future Batman) truly shines. He ultimately proves to his critics and his peers that he is kindly of the Dim Knight persona. He handles the place with the Joker very seriously and proves once and for all that he IS Batman.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Batman Beyond – Return of the Joker! Click Here

This movie portays the Joker at his absolute deadliest and once again proves how unlit and putrid he is. The Joker has always been the most haunting figure in Bruce Wayne’s life, and he certainly doesn’t absorb attend in tormenting his arch-foe even more in this!

Will Friedle(Terry McGinnis/Batman) + Kevin Conroy(Bruce Wayne) lisp their characters with supreme excellence but it’s Notice Hamill who steals the expose (as always) as the Joker. It’s always hard to bear that it’s Hamill who’s voicing the Joker (mainly because he always does such a damn salubrious job of voicng the character) but it is him.

In general, Return of the Joker has a substantial storyline, incredible animation, astonishing music and is quite easily better than all the live action Batman movies. The edited version is honorable but the unedited version is a million times better. The uncut version is even better than the legendary ace film known as Veil of the Phantasm, making Return of the Joker (uncut version) beyond a shadow of doubt, the greatest Batman film in existance.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Batman Beyond – Return of the Joker! Click Here

The DVD has first class special features (trailers, documentry, character bios, audio commentry etc) making this an critical recall for any die-hard Batman fan. If you have to derive Return of the Joker, it unprejudiced HAS to be the uncut version.

Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah shows us in this film what it means to confront anxiety, obstacles, and challenges, and overcome. This man, in spite of being born without one elephantine leg, being abandoned by his father, and cast aside in a country where the disabled are shunned and ignored, decided on one course of action. And that was to become the best he could at whatever God set in front of him. He redefines what it means to be disabled and let things gather in the contrivance of becoming the person you want to be. Lisa Lax and Nancy Stern have given us a magnificent and spirited portrait of a new man. All of us so blessed with opportunities and unparalleled blessings would do well to glance, learn, and be humbled. The Free Wheelchair distribution scene Emmanuel organized for the people in his gain home town is some of the most disturbing and touching video you can spy. Emmanuel long ago stopped thinking of himself. His heart is so outwardly focused that his example can only get us better people ourselves.

watched this film because the DVD blurb by Oprah Winfrey (who narrates a salubrious fraction of the film) encourages “every parent to pick their children to recognize this movie.” And how many films have you watched that are region in Ghana?! Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah was born with a deformed leg and suffered all the disadvantages and humiliations you would quiz in a third world country. His father deserted the family, then his mother died, but through perseverance of body, mind, and spirit, Emmanuel became a national hero as a champion of the disabled in Ghana. His initial feat was to dawdle a bike across Ghana on one leg to plan attention to the dilemma of the disabled; the rest of the documentary follows how this snowballed onto an international stage including visits with Kofi Annan (a Ghanaian), Robin Williams, and to even more worthy athletic accomplishments. Emmanuel’s “gift” involves a double entendre; he had his leg amputated and replaced by a prosthesis at Loma Linda Hospital in California, and of course his wonderful anecdote is a gift to all of us. Oprah was right; look this amazing documentary about an improbable human being.

Be forewarned that this review is primarily for the DVD release of Hellraiser, not the film itself. It’s no secret that Anchor Bay has done an trustworthy job bringing classic and cult fear films to DVD, even if it’s over and over again. The 20th Anniversary Edition of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser adds a few unique extras, while bringing over the same extras that were available from the older DVD release of the film. What’s original here are the interviews with the film’s stars Doug “Pinhead” Bradley, Andrew Robinson, and Ashley Laurence. Other than that, it’s the same stuff that we had before, including the entertaining commentary by Barker and Laurence. If you already maintain the previous release of Hellraiser, the unusual interviews alone aren’t any reason to go out and acquire this up whatsoever. Anchor Bay has quite a habit of double and triple dipping their DVD’s (there is yet again another edition of the novel Sinful Expressionless on the plan as well), and the 20th Anniversary Edition of Hellraiser is no different. As for the film itself, it’s an gracious and current exhaust in violent fear that quiet holds up 20 years later, and remains Clive Barker’s crowning film achievement. If you don’t already hold Hellraiser on DVD, then by all means lift this edition up, but as said before, if you already absorb it, there’s no reason to bewitch this edition up too.

Hellraiser is an vulgar anxiety lover’s dream approach right. Clive Barker’s original vision marked a virtual rebirth of the genre at a time when slasher sequels were the fun, yet predictable, norm. Although the premiere setting for viewing this movie is a crowded theater of screamers (and sick puppies like myself who accumulate humor in gore), one can peaceful finish a quite salubrious conclude watching this movie alone in the black. Some terror creators rely on blood and gore for its believe sake, others rely on the chronicle itself to compose the desired attain. Clive Barker is one of the few scare geniuses who can accomplish copious amounts of gore an integral and important fraction of the memoir. Hellraiser can be deliciously corrupt, so those with stale stomachs should beware. It features rats; decayed, maggot-infested meat; and copious amounts of blood–and that’s unbiased the teaser. Later there are acts of cold-blooded execute, human dismemberment by arrays of chains, a partially formed, pus-dripping, oozing carcass, and then the unbelievable Cenobites themselves.

The movie at its simplest level is a retelling of a legend that goes befriend to Goethe’s Doctor Faustus and beyond–when you sell your soul to spoiled forces, you will regret it. Frank Cotton is a irascible, uncaring man who has grown bored with life’s most vulgar pleasures. When he hears about and eventually acquires a puzzle box which can commence the door to a unusual world of perverse pleasures, he finds out that one man’s pleasure is another man’s distress under the tutelage of the Cenobites. Somehow, he manages to rush the other world, and when his brother’s blood is spilled in his chamber of horrors, his body begins to reform itself. More blood is required to complete the job, and his brother’s wife Julia supplies it by picking up men at bars and bringing them home for Frank’s nourishment. The prim and generous Julia was ravaged by Frank soon before her wedding to Frank’s brother Larry, and she enjoyed the experience so mighty that she will do anything to derive Frank restored to vaguely human-looking life. Larry’s daughter Kirsty, played by Ashley Laurence in her motion describe debut, discovers what is going on and manages to score her hands on the puzzle box. When she is introduced to the Cenobites, the fun truly begins.

The Hellraiser series degraded into a sunless mimicry of itself in later movies, but the fresh vision personally sculpted by the masterly hands of writer and director Clive Barker is a dismay masterpiece. The Cenobites are one of the most modern, keen “abominable guys” ever dreamed up in the imagination of man. They really don’t appear too often in this film, and Pinhead (played by the large Doug Bradley) is never referred to by this name even in the credits. When they do appear, with Pinhead enunciating such substantial statements as “No tears, please. It is honest a extinguish of pleasurable suffering” and “We will saunter your soul apart,” they are truly horrifying, mysterious, and larger than life. Less is definitely more when it comes to the prominence of Pinhead and his demonic associates in the movie.

Those who disapprove fear probably have sense enough to discontinue positive of Hellraiser. Those of us who revel in rude awe delight in watching it. If you are an intermediate-level awe fan initiated by the Sob and Freddy/Michael/Jason movies, here is your chance to really test your scare mettle.

Whatever you do, don’t occupy this copy of the YUA movie. ADV acquired the masters to this and then sat on it for so long that they released a VHS-quality version on DVD: non-anamorphic; missing the 5.1 audio; and from the recognize of it made from a composite (TV) master.

Fortunately ADV are re-releasing it in February 2005 as it should have been the first time around. Score that version instead. Do not benefit this crappy release by buying it.

I was quite surprised at unprejudiced how black and shaded You’re Under Arrest!: The Motion Represent is compared with the upbeat and silly situations of the OAV series and the Specials that I had seen from the series previously. While “purists” of the series will likely balk at the murky overtones (which are highly prevalent even in the scenes which buy spot in vast daylight), all the “negativity” and the terrorizing of Tokyo actually works quite well, with the series’ penchant for comedy coming through at unprejudiced the good moments for brief levity.

Overall, the storyline is honorable. Mystery, drama, and action are all interwoven into a dazzling epic which is absolutely spirited. Yet while prior knowledge of the You’re Under Arrest! series would certainly be favorable for the viewer, such familiarity with the series is definitely not needed… although the viewer may then wonder about why clear over-the-top feats acquire region in various scenes.

Where the film fails greatly, however, is in the occasional utilize of freeze-frames in key, high-action moments. Given that non-theatrical anime is typically produced under a very stringent time schedule and with a sub-par budget, cost-cutting tactics such as reusing scenes (such as the transformation scenes in any magical girl anime) or using freeze-frames to slash down on the number of animation cels (and the time to construct them) is not surprising. But for a theatrical-release anime which inherently receives a higher budget and (at least in theory) more time for production to effect the higher level of quality viewers ask in a theatrical release, the utilize of freeze-frames is this film’s major pitfall. The freeze-frame idea works well for comedy, such as A-ko jumping from missile to missing in Project A-ko; the freeze-frame idea to highlight a high-action/high-drama moment fails miserably, at least in this film.

The freeze-frame fiasco aside, You’re Under Arrest!: The Motion Recount is definitely not the stereotypical anime offering available in the States. Although this is really not meant for young children, they could probably like this as well. While female characters are VERY prominent in the film, they are not super-endowed or fetishized or denigrated in any procedure. Nothing is gratuitous in this film, although some of the action is definitely over-the-top. And perhaps most importantly, the lag of the film is so natural and appealing that it almost feels “proper…” at least, until a freeze-frame occurs. Overall, this is a sure must-see film for any anime enthusiast, and a pleasurable site to originate for those wishing to learn about anime.

This would be the last season of the long running M*A*S*H season which is kind of amusing as I read once how Alan Alda signed the contract for the first season of M*A*S*H impartial a couple of hours before they shot the pilot episode as he was troubled to designate thinking it might be a long running series, I for one am contented he did! In this final Season we stare a closer to everything in the 4077. The third disc is the final episode which is two hours long basically a movie but very grand with the emotional that was felt during the war and the emotional of saying goodbye for righteous and watching Hawkeye struggle with the casualties that war sometimes brings. In this season Klinger gets married and ends up staying in Korea with the girl and there are other memorial episodes. If your a M*A*S*H fan like me your collection would not be complete without the very last season of MASH. If you unprejudiced liked the Season Finial “Goodbye, Farwell and Amen” you can by that separate but why not gather it with the rest of this season to indulge in as well.

The first few episodes of Season 11 showed that it was definitely time for one of the most eminent shows of television history to end shop: Episodes began to be written featuring characters who had previously only had lines like “yes, Doctor” or “would you like bread with lunch, Major? ”

But a lot of plan plainly went into the final moments: it is worth the label of the entire package for only the final two episodes: In “As Time Goes By” Margaret decides to lead a group burying a time capsule commemorating their time at the 4077th. When the boys in The Swamp offer to attend she is resistant, vivid the general lack of seriousness from Hawkeye and B.J. This episode does a pleasant job combining the trademark of the show: M*A*S*H was able to be funnier than almost any point to in history, while at the same time addressing serious issues in more depth than almost any other “drama”.

The finale “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” remains the most watched television broadcast of all time – over 50 million households were tuned in, which represented more than 60% of the tvs in employ, about 10 million more than the highest-rated Dapper Bowls. I remember well watching the novel broadcast with a gigantic group – the 30 shrimp sit-com format was turned into a 2 1/2 hour broadcast, and we were riveted for every moment. Originally, we were disconcerted – what was Hawkeye doing in the loony bin? The episode unraveled at a late drag and every major character received a well-deserved knowing moment leading up to the climax where we recognize why Hawkeye cracked up. The final thirty minutes lets us say our goodbyes to these beloved characters as they say farewell to each other.

Exquisite. That one adjective describes both this film, and its leading lady. Although she is best remembered as the title character in the classic 1944 mystery, “Laura”, and received greater acclaim for her Oscar-nominated performance in the highest-grossing 20th Century-Fox film of the 1940’s, “Leave Her to Heaven”, “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” nonetheless remains Gene Tierney’s most successful film performance. As Lucy Muir, a spirited British widow at the turn of the 20th century who falls in love with the ghost of a sea captain, Miss Tierney is on screen in every scene of the film, and dazzles throughout with her ethereal beauty and her thespic versatility. Afforded the rare opportunity to play moments of high comedy, quiet drama, and romantic yearning all in one film, Miss Tierney never once strikes a false note. She is particularly touching in the sequence during which the middle-aged Mrs. Muir reflects on the past with her grown daughter; in the hands of a lesser actress, this scene could easily have become maudlin and overly sentimental, but Tierney plays it with a quiet dignity and sweet resolve that distills the essence of her graceful and independent character.

Yet, while “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” is arguably Tierney’s best film, its success is not due to her efforts alone. Rex Harrison, in his second American film, also triumphs as the salty sea captain whose gruff veneer is slowly peeled away by the determined widow sharing his home. The scene in which he bids her a tender farewell is brilliantly played. George Sanders excels in his role as a romantic cad; the vocal sneer he practically patented on film suits his part here perfectly. And the entire production is aided tremendously by Bernard Herrmann’s lush and majestic score, as well as Charles Lang’s Oscar-nominated cinematography (that nomination was for the 1947 awards, by the the way, not the 1942 ceremonies as incorrectly noted on the front of the DVD box).

Speaking of the DVD, the transfer is – in the 20th Century-Fox Home Video tradition – disappointing. While the source print is much better that the one used for the VHS and laserdisc releases, and is infinitely superior to the scratchy, poorly-spliced copy that is often screened on pay-TV stations like AMC, the film has not been digitally restored. There are still significant flutters (especially noticeable during the opening credits), scratches, and jumps in both the picture and the soundtrack. The DVD does include the rarely-seen Original Theatrical Trailer; a stills gallery that emphasizes set design photographs but does include some interesting on-the-set photos of Gene Tierney in her wheelchair (she broke her foot during production and continued filming against her doctor’s advice); Theatrical Trailers for the five previously-released Fox Studio Classics DVDs; an A&E “Biography” segment on Rex Harrison; and audio commentaries including remarks by film historian Jeanine Basinger who supervised the cataloging of the Tierney archives in Connecticut … and whose name is misspelled on the DVD package. (Way to go, Fox! You REALLY need to hire a film historian to proof-read your DVD packages. They’re uniformly inaccurate, filled with both typos and misinformation.) Despite its flaws, this DVD edition is the still one available of this classic, greatly-beloved film and is therefore cheerfully recommended.

Trivia note: Not surprisingly, after Tierney died in 1991 at the age of 70 (not 71 as noted in the DVD’s liner notes), “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” was the film chosen to represent the actress’ career during the two-day auction of many of her personal effects at the Hart Galleries in Houston, Texas. The screening was a most fitting tribute to both a marvelous actress and a lovely human being.

This was the movie that convinced me that the great screen romances involved couples that were not able to kiss or even touch. The Ghost the late Captain Daniel Gregg, played by a bristling Rex Harrison, while Mrs. Lucy Muir is Gene Tierney, a widow who moves into the captain’s seaside cottage with her young daughter (played as a child by Natalie Wood, by Vanessa Brown as an adult). Of course, he wants to be terrifying and chase her away from “his” home, but she, of course, finds him endearing. He declares he is not ashamed to have lived the live of a man and she counters that being alive is not a crime. They talk about everything except their feelings for each other, but that is the true topic of all of their conversations. When Miles Fairley, another one of George Sanders patented silvery-tongued rouges, enters Lucy’s life offering her a chance for happiness in the real world, the Captain loves her enough to leave her, not knowing that Fairley has a secret. However, while the title characters do not live happily ever after, there is a wonderful ending to the film. Definitely one of my ten favorite Romance movies of all time with marvelous interaction between Harrison and Tierney (her best film by far). Adapted by Philip Dunne from R. A. Dick’s novel, with solid direction from Joseph L. Mankiewicz and a superb score from Bernard Herrmann. “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” is a treasured Golden Oldie, not to be confused with the wretched sitcom television produced in the late 60’s.

Do yourself a favor and skip buying this set. I was able to obtain/bootleg all of the episodes on DVD, which I felt I had no choice in doing (I’d rather buy a factory set), recorded from Canadian TV (which, by the way, even has more footage in some of the episodes than the syndicated U.S. broadcasts). This way it’s intact, the way it was intended, with the original soundtrack—not the pusillanimous generic elevator music that the studio hastily replaced it with in the DVDs. It’s just not the same show without the original soundtrack.

A faux-suede satchel or fake parka case doesn’t come close to making up for compromising the artistic integrity of Northern Exposure. Sorry Universal, but you aren’t getting one red cent from me until you get this right.

I would love to buy this. It would be my most prized DVD set. But I cannot until they present us the episodes in their complete and original forms. What a sad waste. They could have sold 100X this many and had steady post release sales had they not gutted this fantastic show. Sad.

The animation in this Japanese cartoon is certainly not up to the standards of today’s big-budget toonies, but it’s a cute little film that smaller kids should find interesting and adults can tolerate. Scamper is a penguin chick with a penchant for wandering away from the nest. Facing attacks from seagulls and sea lions, Scamper nevertheless wanders off and meets a huskie and his human owner, a scientist. Another venture is not as friendly though as Scamper and his little pal Snowflake are whisked away by hunters who plan to sell them to the zoo. They meet Louie, a Macaroni penguin (?) who tries to help them escape.

Scamper teaches the value of learning and family and is harmless enough for the young set, although there is a little disturbing violence with the penguin hunters. All in all, a fun movie for the family to watch together.

I teach Kindergarten and this is my FAVORITE video for this age group. (First and second graders like it too. Scamper has some exciting adventures and really captures the attention of the children. Also, as an added bonus, the cartoon creators were able to sneak in a lot of scientific facts without the kids catching on that they were learning while they were having fun!
